If you are a regular reader of Fratello Watches you probably know that I love iconic watches. The terms ‘watch icons’ and ‘cult watches’ are used to refer to those timepieces that – most of the time – have been around for decades and gained a certain importance with regards to design or style. They are timeless classics that have only undergone slight changes over the years, most of which were in regard to small design details or under the hood. Watch journalist Michael Balfour even wrote a book on the subject in 2007 (Cult Watches: The World’s Enduring Classics) […]

Only 3 on here I'd want, though I wouldn't kick the others out of bed! The only one I own is the Speedy Pro. I'd like to own the Daytona and the AP 15202. Then in descending order, Calatrava, Sub, Navitimer, El Primero, Carrera, Reverso, Tank.

Darn 7 more to go! (Using Ashley's "close-enough" rule)

But really, of the remaining 7 , the only 3 that I want would be the Calatrava, the Sub and the EP.

And I wonder - would the Lange 1 qualify to be in that list too?

2/10, but really there are only 2-3 of those that I'd consider.

I have 2/10 (Sub and Speedy). In all honesty, they are the only 2 of the 10 that I really desire. If I look at the 8 that I don't have, I can think of far too many other watches I would spend the money on before buying any of those 8.

The only other 2 that even remotely peak my interest are the Calatrava (3919?) and the Reverso. The PP costs a lot for what you get, and the Reverso I have tried on so many times I can't count. It looks great, except when I strap it on my wrist - it never looks right to me, so I have passed on it many times. I like the watch, just not how it looks on my wrist.

I have never been one to buy what other people consider icons or "must haves" in my collection though...

    Cheers, Al

The one out of the lot that I like the most, is actually the Daytona, its such a good daily wear watch for so many reasons.

Which makes me wonder folks, what would be on your list of "Honourable Mentions" that you felt were missing?

For me, I've mentioned the Lange 1, and I'd add the Nautilus, but I'm sure there are a couple more that you have on your mind.

Man I remember your previous post. You had a really lovely Lange 1815 Up/Down, and I'm been dreaming of Lange 1815s since then! (especially the ones with blue dials).

I'll pass on the Cartier and AP when making my personal top ten list... :)

My personal list notwithstanding, I'd say that list is mostly there.

Drop the Breitling for a Breguet Type XX and it's all there.

These are great watches of course and perhaps I am an outlier at 0/10, but I am not losing sleep over it. The one missing in this list that I am still losing sleep over is the first series Jumbo Patek Nautilus, which I came close to buying 15 years ago but did not. Bad mistake! :whipped:

5/10. A Reverso is probably the only one I don't have that might crack the top 10 of my wishlist.
