So I made a last minute bid and snagged this guy....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Seama...LdY04yJPeMpBuIQXjHQ5Nwc=&orig_cvip=true&rt=ncPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

I know I should have done more research first, but as it seemed to be coming from a private collection from a less-than-sophisticated seller, I figured it was worth a shot. Would have liked to see the movement. I will open it up upon receipt and see what's going on in there.

So...tell me what's wrong with this watch? :)

For the price it looks fine. The two marks on the back where the beveled edge runs up & down are because the gold plate has worn through - common on these cases. Other than that and the "lint" at the 19 minute mark (whatever that may be) it seems a decent purchase for $133.

Kinda what I figured. The price was right for my first vintage automatic. Any clue what cal might be in that thing?

No date, automatic, with center seconds so it's a case reference 165.0xx probably with a 55x from the late 60's or very early 70's (counting on it being a man's watch and not a lady's version). The actual case reference will be on the back of the watch but isn't visible in the photos from the listing.

Probably a Ref. 166.0022 or similar. Look it up here when you get it:

The only issue I see is whether that is wear-through on the back or just a reflection of the camera. For the price, you did very well. Have a watchmaker fix it up and you'll have years of happy service from that one.

    Take care,

This looks like the same model that I bought a few years ago for £220! Only difference is mine was supplied by Turler. Cal 552, 165.00026

I wore it a lot when I first got it and the gold plaiting on the back has since worn through a bit.

    Hope this helps -

Yup, that's the one. 165.0026. Just got it today. I was a little disturbed that it does not match up with the image in the Omega DB. Is it commonly inaccurate?

It even arrived running and working! It looks like the crystal is new-ish, which might explain how something odd ended up at the 19sec mark. I will post some better pics later.

In this case it is accurate. Omega made several dials for each case reference, so the fact that yours doesn't match the picture exactly makes little difference.

Looks like you did well here,

Hi, I am about to pull the trigger on this one for about 400 USD. Advice?

First would be to start a new thread, as the one you appended was from over 7 years ago.

Second would be only buy it if you are okay with the gold plating having worn through around the case edges.

Third would be to make sure the crown looks like it's the same color as the gold plating on the case. It looks off in the pics, but it may just be lighting/ perspective.

I like the dial, but not so much the hands, crown and case. How does the movement look?
