Terrible news all around, but I for one would really not like to tempt fate with the "could not possibly get any worse..."
Full Moon Fever was a constant in my university days, it came out the years I started at uni...he truly was one of the greats. RIP.
Following the Janet Jackson mess, the NFL needed a class act for half time at the Super Bowl. Tom Petty stepped up and provided us with that class act. RIP.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/lapd-clarifies-cannot-confirm-tom-petty-death/ So... it might be incorrect news?
Apparently he's been taken off life support. Apparently the hospital released the story to news outlets in error. Pretty clear he's not going to make it barring a miracle.
Wikipedia's going back and forth on including a date of death this afternoon. I saw it included on an initial look, later refreshed the page and it was gone. Still later I looked back and the date of death was back again.
I understand it's inevitable to lose so many people who have defined an era. Still, it's hard to fathom how much is changing as we go forward. Heartbreaker indeed.
Between this sad news and what happened in Las Vegas last night, this could be another "Day the Music Died". I was a student in Gainesville during the late 1970's when The Heartbreakers began to churn out hit record after hit record. Tom Petty was very well known along Fraternity Row as he likely played every house there a few years before I arrived. Whenever a record was released, you'd always see his father on local TV. And now he is gone. gatorcpa
I wanna glide down over Mulholland I wanna write her name in the sky I'm gonna free fall out into nothin' Gonna leave this world for awhile One of the greatest songs ever written.
And here I thought my first post would be about Omega. Yet yours really struck a chord (no pun intended - seriously). Nicely put. A terribly sad day.
I'm learning to fly... (jangle jangle on the Rickenbacker) ... but I ain't got wings (jangle jangle on the Rickenbacker) Tom and a Rickenbacker 6 string. Tom and a Rickenbacker 12 string. Those guitars chime like bells in his music. Real 'feel good' music!
