I'll be sending my 105.012-66 to Simon Freese for service this month and I'm contemplating to have him relume the dial with a vintage colour lume. The dial has previously had all the lume removed and so just looks white with no vintage character. I plan to keep the hands as they are since they have plenty enough age and character.

I havent been wearing the watch due to it needing a service and its lack of vintage character dial.

Would having the dial relumed in a vintage colour lume significantly reduce its future desirability and value? I would expect some loss of desirability but since it already has no lume I dont think it would be too drastic.

    This is the watch

IMHO it will enhance the desirability.....there's nothing attractive about a washed dial. And why on earth an improvement to the look of a watch can have a negative effect on value is beyond my reasoning. The dial has already been washed out, a relume can just as easily be washed off in the future.

You may just want to double check that the relumed plots can be washed off again (i.e. that the relume job is actually reversible). As it is now, I would not have any problem having it relumed.

I say relume... what's the point of having a dial you don't like.

I chose to let Simon relume the first 105.003 I bought, and in my opinion it transformed the watch.

I'd relume. It's your watch in the end. The results from Simon seem very nice.

+1 - and I would also consider matching the hands as well to be honest, but that may be a bit more controversial to a potential buyer

Thanks for the replies, that gives me more confidence I'm doing the right thing. Simon suggested reluming the hands too but I may supply him with a spare set of hands which he can relume but still install the originals, or I might just get him to relume the hour and minute hands as the lume is pretty dark.

If you wanted to got the whole hog there's also the option to buy a 105012 dial in the parts section. Not a cheap option though.

A relume always looks better i think, if you get it right of course.
This was my 64 which had very little lume and looked very dark, I relumed it but maybe too dark again.
After reading on here that it looked like sh*t ::bleh:: I did it again a bit lighter, which does look better

As someone who made the decision to relume a 2998 dial, I will also add to the thought that a good relume will be better than a washed out dial!

You can see the dial is very upload_2019-7-23_5-31-54.png

Glows and fades at the same rate as the hands (original lume) as well!
I hope it helps you in making your decision.

Tell Simon to use water based tritium. He will have some. That cleans off nicely. I'd keep the hands as is. The lume plots on the dial age differently due to the size and different surfaces. Will look good. Kind regards. Achim

I recently bought my first vintage omega also a 105.012 and am thinking same thing. I didn’t realise Simon Freese did re lumes too, is it a case of may as well since he’s also servicing or is he considered as good as James Hyman, who I’ve also read about here?

+1 on relume. Since this isn’t original, enjoy the watch the way you want it!
