Title: How to size Omega 7077 bracelet without removing fixed link?

Message:

Hi everyone,

I have an original Omega 7077 bracelet mounted on my CK2914 Railmaster. The bracelet is slightly too big - I’m missing just about the length of one link to make it fit correctly.

I know it’s risky (or not recommended) to remove a fixed link, so I’m wondering:

Is it possible to size down the bracelet slightly by adjusting only the extensible/stretch links?

Can one of them be locked/compressed? Or is there a safe way to modify the extension without cutting anything?

Any advice, experience, or photos of how it’s done would be very helpful - I want to avoid any damage.

Thanks in advance!

Best,

if i read this:

i asume, that the flexible links are in "bad condition", because in top condition it is not neccesary to "lock" them,
because they are compressed

look at the picture

if you don't want to restore the flexible links (problem should be solved than), you can search a small flexible
link and change against a double link

Thank you for your reply. The stretch links on my bracelet are in excellent condition and lock securely when worn. However, the overall length is still slightly too long. I was wondering if it’s possible to safely remove one of the stretch links (without causing irreversible damage), or if there’s a proven method to slightly reduce the bracelet length while preserving the integrity of the original links.

Would this be something a skilled watchmaker or workshop could handle?

It depends which type of 7077 you have so pictures would help, but yes, it’s possible to resize/remove sprung links by removing the inner panel/plate.
You need some half decent tools for this and a be reasonably competent working on small pieces of kit, otherwise you could cause damage.

Some watchmakers can do it well but many either won’t attempt it or would make a pigs ear of it.

If you search the forum there is a thread somewhere detailing how to resize 1039 flat link bracelets and the principle is the same for 7077’s

for work like this i check first what is to do and than i decide
what to use for this work

mostly i find something in the household:

for example a toothpick - cut the toothpick and than you
have a tool, that makes no damage

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation - that’s extremely helpful.

I’ll take some close-up photos of the bracelet to confirm which type of 7077 it is( first series normally)

Good to know that resizing is possible by removing the inner plate of the sprung links, although I’ll definitely be cautious as I’d prefer not to risk damaging anything.

If you happen to find that thread about resizing 1039 bracelets, I’d really appreciate the link - otherwise I’ll search the forum as you suggested.

Thanks again for your time and guidance!

as i asumed - in better condition it would fit

but anyway, we made a mistake

opening the double links work in another way

check the bracelet/links from backside

and here you find how to do

Have you got a picture of the inside of the links!?

Edit: it looks like it’s not quite the same process for the double links, but given the video posted above, it actually looks easier than on the later single spring links

Thanks a lot to both of you for the clarification and the video - that helps a lot.

You’re right, I hadn’t realized the double links opened differently. I’ll check the bracelet from the backside and take some detailed pictures of the inside of the links as soon as possible, so we can confirm which type I’m working with.

It’s reassuring to hear that the process might even be easier than with the later single-spring links. I’ll proceed carefully and will definitely avoid doing anything irreversible without proper tools or guidance.

so - as showed in the video, but perhabs a leather strap would be better,
if you like to put the watch on your wrist (and don't want to loose the watch)

I’ll watch the video and think about the different options.

Thanks
