    Hello

I recently picked up this interesting sector dial Tissot but unfortunately can't find anything online. Here is what I know: Cushion case, original dial, original hands, maybe original crown, chrome plated, 1930's.

I don't have any movement pics yet, but hopefully the following pics are helpful.

    Thanks all!

(I blame @ConElPueblo and his beautiful Tissot's for this new entry into my collection)

Very nice dial; a shame about the chrome case, though. :(

    Tony,

Do you have more info on this watch - are the crown and lugs original? What movement should this have? Were these typically found in this chrome case? I'm trying to find some old adverts as well but nothing yet.

    Thanks!

This model is from a period that is earlier than my focus, but I am confident that the lugs are correct, and believe the crown to also be original.

Chrome cases were common around and between the periods of the Great Wars, as steel was used for military hardware.

Bear in mind that it is possible to have watches re-chromed, and your dial is nice enough to possibly warrant such an expense.

The cushion case and crown look correct for that era of watch, and yes they were often chrome plated. The inside caseback should be marked, and the serial number can be used to date your watch. Tissot developed a variety of different calibers at the time; the caliber 43 was a workhorse movement for them, as were their earlier 18''' and 19''' movements.

I was thinking about this earlier today and realized that a freshly chromed case would not match well with the current state of the dial. I wonder if it's possible to restore the case in a way where that is possible?

Thank you, that is helpful. I'll post a movement and case back photo when I have it opened by my watchmaker.

I guess the only way is too have it rechromed. A partial rechroming will not give good results. You could try to have it silver plated (after a polish) as silver will be less shiny, but it is not necessary a good idea for wristwatches (allergies, corrosion because of sweat).

I agree, it's a very nice dial, worth the price to restore

@slique12 pm'd me about this piece and I told him that I was pretty sure that I had seen that exact dial in some period advertising - but I haven't been able to find it since

Early Tissots are great - I've recently bought three rectangular models from the thirties for the collection.

I believe it's 34 mm across and 32 mm top to bottom. For a watch that is clearly not large, it packs a punch in terms of presence on the wrist.

Can anyone with chrome plating experience share an approx cost? For the case, case back and crown I see some numbers from $75 - $125 here (http://www.replateit.com/pricing.html)

Also, what type of strap will work best with this case and lug style? And should the strap as as wide as the wired lugs? I ask because the wired lugs are almost as wide as the case and I don't know if a strap that wide would look good::confused2::

I'd find an open-ended strap with a pretty substantial taper, if I was you. Having a slim strap on those lugs will make it look a bit skinny.
