TinTin Value ! ? ! ????

The way I solve for this is to have the watch appraised at the current market value and use that appraisal to get insurance on the watch for that value. That way if the worst does happen and it's lost/stolen/broken, it's covered for a an amount that reflects the current price. In fact, you could argue that it makes sense to insure all watches that have increased in price over the last years now before the prices drop again - because if you insurance agency is anything like mine they won't ask for regularly updated appraisals to reflect current market conditions.

Only downside is the increase in insurance cost - but that's a price I am happy to pay.

Something else I should mention is I don’t see these going crazy beyond where they are, and a big part of that is that they’re now roughly on a parity point with another limited edition racing dial which has been around this mark for years now, the Speedmaster Japan racing LE, reference 3570.40. I would say the Japan LE is at least as nice if not nicer than the Tintin to most people so I just don’t see it exceeding that reference in value much if at all. So if you’re buying it because you like it by all means but to anyone thinking this is an investment at the current price, I really don’t think it has more room to go up now.

I personally like these much more than the Tin Tin. Th orange is just awesome. Wish I had one...

For a price comparison… this ebay listing is for a head only, no box or papers Tintin on a leather strap, with some visible wear to it. Currently $9,100 USD and going off in 7 hours, this one will be interesting to watch as a market test.

It will be interesting to see where this one ends.

To say this one is an outlier is an understatement but it was essentially given away. All it needed was a service.

Sold on the same day it was listed back in March of this year for $4,500 with bracelet- no box/papers. It was a legitimate sale and fortunately stayed in the hands of a OF member/collector who sent it to a omega to be serviced. I missed out on it but all is well as I’m more than happy with my mod.

So the final sold price was US$9,100 and depending on how ebay works the US state sales tax a US buyer would pay about 8% in sales tax. So about $9,900 incl postage. If you add another $750 for an original Omega steel bracelet to bring it up to spec, and another $750 for an overhaul which I would do if I bought it you end up with an authentic, complete and serviced Tin Tin for US$11,400, but no box and papers. Sounds like an ok deal for the purchaser if one was looking for a Tin Tin.

H'mm....just noticed that this watch is the same watch as currently advertised on the Private Sales Forum (same pics and serial number), at a much higher price, and I see the seller just bumped his listing on the Private Sales forum 10 minutes AFTER the ebay auction closed so not sure why he's doing that if the watch has been sold on ebay. Update: now shown as OHPF.

Good spot but I only see FS and not OHPF. It is indeed the same watch:

It had an OHPF designation in the title late last night and this morning (US time), now it is back to FS. I suspect the seller wasn't having any success selling it since it has been on the sales forum since June 22 so he went the ebay route, but the winning bid was only $9,100 which means he nets, what, $8,500 or so? Not a very strong price even considering it has no bracelet or papers, and is well used. So who knows what the status is now, says SOLD on ebay for $9,100, but still being offered on the Private Sales forum right now.

What I found interesting is the OF ad says comes with both box and papers while the eBay ad say it does not...

That struck me as odd, too, but I suspect the box was added later, which is easy to do. Very unclear about the papers, though. No picture of the red cards, so I doubt they exist because that would be a strong sales component.

My question is, why can't you wear it everyday?
If you like it, just do it. It won't warm your heart knowing that you own a 15kUSD watch in the safe, does it?
