She was.....SIMPLY THE BEST. Saw her in 1993 at Radio City Music Hall...super high energy performane, she was all over the stage in a very short dress and super high heels. A great performer. The classic rockers are going now, not to be replaced by the current crop. RIP.

Gah! I've been rocking out to Ghost's cover of "We Don't Need Another Hero" all week! 🙁

Yup … we are losing boomer icons left and right. She was larger than life.

Admittedly not a fan of her music but she was the 'model' for the 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD ads and I enjoyed her work in Thunderdome (I was an action movie fan in the 1980s). Surprised to learn she was a couple years older than my mom. She was very accomplished. Sad what she had to tolerate in her first marriage. RIP.

As a pubescent lad, this appearance on Ed Sullivan damn near killed me.

Grew up in North St. Louis and she (they) played the Club Imperial when I was in high school.

Most powerful legs ever.....

Was never a fan post her days with Ike (the bastard), but Tina Turner was one of the legends. Saw her and Turner perform Nutbush City Limits on Sonny and Cher. Even an 8 year old me understood she was both hot and totally killer. RIP.

"Proud Mary" was our favorite wedding dance song, the old people would get out there for the slow beginning and then you could watch them drop like flies when they started "rolling on the river".

Yes, Ike was a total bastard, and not a very gifted musician, unlike The Supremely Gifted Jimi Hendrix who didn't last very long with Ike (wonder why).. this is not to excuse Ike in any way shape or form for the abuser that he became, but he was apparently really badly sexually abused from the age of six
by several family members, and this no doubt had a profound impact on the person he would become.

This version is my favorite, so much better than the slow build-up version with Ike doing his baritone first verse that I'm completely allergic to, probably because it's Ike
