Hello all. I am rather new to the forums. I see people post frequently that a watch is +/- so many seconds over such a period of time. What I am wondering is what device do you base that on? Do people use the "GPS" time on their phone to set an accurate time, or is there a website for the atomic clock featuring accurate time. Maybe you can still call in to (xxx) 853-1212 to get the time? I am just curious as what people use as a base reference of time.
When I strap on a watch that has run down (nearly every day for me), I use my phone & set to the minute. Good enough for me.[emoji108]
I just use the clock on my phone. I have heard there is a small error rate, but I accept it. I accept error rates in the time keeping of a mechanical watch to an even greater percentage!
I use Emerald Time App for iPhone. It averages four atomic clock time signals. Quick and easy. gatorcpa
I'm guessing solar powered. An early version. Today I think you get a rebate from the government for buying such a watch....
Set to the minute, maybe a little fast is good enough for me. If you really want to, there are apps for your phone that you can use to check in now and then and see if you're gaining or losing.. I tried it for a few weeks and discovered that I didn't really care.
I use an app called Watch Tracker. Similar to that described above, it takes an average of atomic clocks as the base time. You can then 'hack' the time on your watch vs the atomic time and it'll give you data such as the daily average rate. Do it enough and you get a nice graph too!
Post of the month. That's how easy it is. Same for me, looking good if it matches at the end of a wind (manual)
If I'm setting the time on somebody else's watch I use one of three Emerald Sequoia apps. If it's one of my own manuals or automatics I use the kitchen clock, it's usually +/- 15seconds so close enough for me. For my electric watches, I just trust them.
