    Hi all,
Well, I've now picked up 5 new watches in the last 3 or 4 months, and it is now time to take stock.

Without any purpose or direction, 3 of the 5 I've picked up have been bumpers
    • Pre Seamaster 2582 cal 351 Bumper
    • Seamaster 2757 cal 355 Bumper (plain black dial)
    • Pre Seamaster 2328/2523 cal R17.8 manual (small gold watch)
    • Connie 168.010 cal 564
    • Seamaster 2767 cal 354 bumper (black honeycomb dial)

And the more I look around on eBay, the more I realise that I really like the dial styles of that period, so I'm thinking that my first objective should be to get the remaining bumper calibers?
    28.10 RA PC
    333
    342
    343
Are any of these especially good/bad/special? Hard to find? Expensive? etc? Is this a logical first step? From what I've seen, bumpers are also reasonably priced, compared with others?

Obviously (like everyone else) I also really like the honeycomb/waffle/guilloche dials, (especially in black), and I would also like to ensure my collection does include a range of other things (I'm on the lookout for a 1981 Speedy Pro).

I'm also quickly finding what I don't like:
    - the 1970s square/TV styles,
    - baton/stick hands
    - some of the fonts used for some of the arabic numbers, especially when they have two square dots under the 12, like this font http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-194...784809198?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item43b42010eePurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
    - diamond-shaped hour markers, like here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Omega-vi...ristwatches&hash=item3f1dbe38e7#ht_720wt_1344Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

    Welcome your thoughts/views/random ideas, etc!
    Daniel

Bumpers are addicting. Parts can be hard to come by for some calibers so keep an eye out for a spare movement. There's no real shortage of 342 or 344 calibers. The others might be a little more difficult depending on which models you want them in.

You're ahead of the curve as far as refining your tastes. It took me a few years of experimenting to know what I preferred (with the exception of crushes I had on 3 or 4 high end pieces). Just never say never because you might come across a well executed design that has one of the elements you don't like.

They're around. Problem is that when one of us gets a really good example, it either has a permanent home or never even hits the sales forum when we go to sell it. 36 hours after deciding to sell mine it was claimed and I only sent a couple PM's.

I think finding a nice 352/343/333 will be pretty tough and might take some time. Here's a 352!

I guess one key thing is there is no point buying a watch that isn't going to get wrist time. Even the cheapest watch is too expensive if you aren't going to wear it!

You should be able to snag the 28.10 RA series and 342 caliber watches fairly quickly. These were popular in their time and there are plenty out there, although you do have to be a bit picky about condition. Some of these watches have been beaten like rented mules.

The cals. 333 and 343, being chronometer rated, are rare and usually bring premium prices when the come up for auction. The one bumper movement missing from your list is the cal. 30.10 JUB movement, which was used in the larger version (Ref. 2500) of the Omega Centenary. MSNWatch sold off one of these about a year ago:

    Hope this helps,.

Thanks. That 30.10 is stunning. But I do want to slow down and give these new watches some wrist time. Up to a few days ago, I was often looking at 'ok' watches on eBay, thinking that if they go cheap, it would be worth it. But then yesterday I realised unless I really like it, and will give it definite wrist time, then it just ain't worth spending even a couple of hundred. Better save up for something like that 30.10! I'd prefer to have a small collection of great watches, than a larger collection of OK watches.

So after @dougiedude recent post, i went back and looked at this thread of mine. Things have really changed! i have sold 3 lf the watches above (both of the black dials, which i am regretting, and the small solid gold).

My tastes have also really changed. Ive got 3 sspeedmasters, an AT, a Seamaster Pro.

So i dont have a calibre based collection, or desire, anymore.....

Just got this Black Waffle dial on eBay a few days ago, looks pretty similar to Hijak's one.
