I was thinking about buying a Memomatic but it was not to be. This led me to the Vulcain. I did not know the impressive history and I am surprised by the wide bid -spread on prices. Any Vulcain fans / owners on the forum who can explain more. Live long and prosper….. https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-blog/resources/history-vulcain-cricket-presidents-watch.html
Plenty https://omegaforums.net/threads/vulcain-cricket-got-em-show-em-new-old.71025/ Don’t have a Vulcain but do have a Bulova Alarm Watch
I like them. By modern standards they can be considered a bit small. If I remember correctly, mine was 34mm. The alarm function is really neat.
Cracking watch and thanks for the link. Any idea why there is such a price disparity? There seemed to be a much wider spread compared to other vintage watches I have searched for (might be pot luck on when I was looking)
Lots of threads on Vulcain as well as other alarm watches. I'd encourage you to search these out and educate yourself before committing cash. Also a few interesting alarm watches for sale in the Watch Sales forum.
I've never paid a lot for an alarm, but then I've never gone after a JLC or an Omega Memomatic. These are fun watches to use; they're sort of like Jack-in-the-Box devices when they go off. I'm not stuck on size like a lot of people so a smallish watch by today's standards is fine with me.
I’ve got a 1971 34mm Hamilton sub brand called Vantage with an AS movement shared with a Tudor. I love it.
I have a couple of Vulcain Crickets. By today's standards they could be considered on the smaller side at 34mm but I have an 8" wrist and don't have any problem wearing mine. They are great fun pieces
Mine says Hi! I'm ashamed to admit I don't know the exact model, just that it's probably from the 50s...
What a beauty!! What would you expect to pay for a cricket? Not terrible fussy on years but that's gorgeous
Really not sure - checking ebay sold listings, there’s only one that looked like the one I have at above 1k, and other models are sub-1k. So it looks like it’s the model that is most popular. Fratello did an article on the same model a few days ago https://www.fratellowatches.com/tbt-worlds-first-alarm-wrist-watch-vulcain-cricket/ Looks like there’s no ref number on caseback so it makes the hunt harder.
