·Fear not, you haven't slipped into a time vortex and lost a few months, it is not yet November.
It's summer. And it's quiet. Almost too quiet. This is the calm before the Mo.
And in this period of calm, Mat (the_#Watchnerd) and I spotted a golden opportunity to engage in a little early Movember fundraising by raffling off some clocks and watches that we’d fallen out of love with.
The criteria were set for ourselves was simple - anything we put in the raffle had to be affordable (under £150/$200), had to be working, and had to be interesting in one way or another.
We started off with three watches, then added a couple more, then some of our friends got involved, and with one month to go have 9 watches and 2 clocks in the prize pot:
1 - Swatch Sistem51 HODINKEE Vintage 84 - RRP $150 - complete and boxed
2 - Casio G-Shock G-100-1BVMUR - RRP £100 - lightly worn with box and papers
3 - Casio G-Shock GX-56BB-1ER “KING” - RRP £129 - lightly worn with box and papers
4 - Swatch x KidRobot x Kozik "Ski Instructor" GJ130 (34mm) - RRP £44.50 - New with box and papers
5 - Casio Pro Trek Sea-Pathfinder SPF-40 - RRP $200 - unworn, mid 2000s, new battery, no box or papers
6 - Seiko 5 Automatic 7009-8760, circa August 1992 - Used, with signs of wear, comes with Seiko box, and new JB Champion “Lizard-Calf” Strap, service history unknown
7 - Angelus Abercrombie & Fitch 8 Day Alarm Clock & Weather Station - Vintage circa 1960s, clear signs of wear and use, some damage to leatherette finish, some marking to gold plating, service history unknown.
8 - Seiko Sports Timing Alarm Clock QHL062Y. Brand new and unused. RRP £20.00
9 - 1970s Marvin Automatic NOS Gold Plated Watch - 31x37mm, comes with original buckle and strap, strap shows signs of wear from storage.
10 - 1970s Poljot 17 Jewel Automatic Gold Plated Watch. Used. Serviced.
11 - WMT Sea Diver “Oman”, limited to 20 pieces, barely worn, fitted with undersized Bond NATO.
12 - 1960s Remova 17 jewel automatic watch. Unworn. Stainless Steel. Approximately 35mm excluding the crown.
Hopefully there’s something on offer that tickles your fancy.
But remember, the prime objective here is to raise funds for Movember, and help them to support research, support and care for men who have testicular or prostate cancers, or struggle with their mental health.
If you are not familiar with the Movember foundation, and would like to learn more, I recorded interviews in 2020 with three of their Ambassadors, Bobby (a double testicular cancer survivor), Elvin (a prostate cancer survivor), and James (a mental health advocate) - you can listen here.
To see the full terms and workings of the raffle, and to get your ticket (they are £6 each), please visit the Time 4A Pint Movember Summer Raffle Page. (This raffle is not associated with or being run by Omega Forums).
You can also see the cash flowing into my Mo Space account here.
Thanks to those who have already given their support.
If the prizes are of interest, and/or you like the idea of supporting the work that Movember do, to stop men dying too young, please pick up a ticket before the raffle closes on September 30.
Thanks
Chris
