Fear not, you haven't slipped into a time vortex and lost a few months, it is not yet November.

It's summer. And it's quiet. Almost too quiet. This is the calm before the Mo.

And in this period of calm, Mat (the_#Watchnerd) and I spotted a golden opportunity to engage in a little early Movember fundraising by raffling off some clocks and watches that we’d fallen out of love with.

The criteria were set for ourselves was simple - anything we put in the raffle had to be affordable (under £150/$200), had to be working, and had to be interesting in one way or another.

We started off with three watches, then added a couple more, then some of our friends got involved, and with one month to go have 9 watches and 2 clocks in the prize pot:

    1 - Swatch Sistem51 HODINKEE Vintage 84 - RRP $150 - complete and boxed

    2 - Casio G-Shock G-100-1BVMUR - RRP £100 - lightly worn with box and papers

    4 - Swatch x KidRobot x Kozik "Ski Instructor" GJ130 (34mm) - RRP £44.50 - New with box and papers

5 - Casio Pro Trek Sea-Pathfinder SPF-40 - RRP $200 - unworn, mid 2000s, new battery, no box or papers

6 - Seiko 5 Automatic 7009-8760, circa August 1992 - Used, with signs of wear, comes with Seiko box, and new JB Champion “Lizard-Calf” Strap, service history unknown

7 - Angelus Abercrombie & Fitch 8 Day Alarm Clock & Weather Station - Vintage circa 1960s, clear signs of wear and use, some damage to leatherette finish, some marking to gold plating, service history unknown.

Hopefully there’s something on offer that tickles your fancy.

But remember, the prime objective here is to raise funds for Movember, and help them to support research, support and care for men who have testicular or prostate cancers, or struggle with their mental health.

If you are not familiar with the Movember foundation, and would like to learn more, I recorded interviews in 2020 with three of their Ambassadors, Bobby (a double testicular cancer survivor), Elvin (a prostate cancer survivor), and James (a mental health advocate) - you can listen here.

To see the full terms and workings of the raffle, and to get your ticket (they are £6 each), please visit the Time 4A Pint Movember Summer Raffle Page. (This raffle is not associated with or being run by Omega Forums).

You can also see the cash flowing into my Mo Space account here.

Thanks to those who have already given their support.

If the prizes are of interest, and/or you like the idea of supporting the work that Movember do, to stop men dying too young, please pick up a ticket before the raffle closes on September 30.

    Thanks

    Chris

    Thanks for the support!

I set things running before the 1AM feed, and so far 15 tickets have gone.

Hopefully with the low cost to enter, the good causes being supported, and the multiple chances to win watches, over the next 2 months people will grab all the tickets.

Then I need to work out what to do for the main event in November! :whistling:

    Hi tyrantlizardrex
Probably my pick would be #2. I had an earlier Casio dual analogue and digital when they first came out as a work watch. Couldn't kill the thing, The only problem was that you had to have a degree in literature, another in physics, and one in engineering to set the damn thing.:)

You're forgetting about the powerful magnifying glass to read the tiny instruction booklet! :D

It was so small I lost it and had to get a copy from somewhere that was copied on an old fax machine. A couple of times I took it to the jewellers where I bought it and got them to reset it.::book::

Massive thanks to the 17 folks who've grabbed 54 tickets between them.

Will be adding at least one more watch to the pot this week, after discovering a box of stuff I'd forgotten I had!

I know this isn't a post about investments, which Speedmaster will make you cool, or how to get a Rolex out of an AD without performing sex acts on farm animals, but this is an opportunity to maybe win a watch, and definitely support the work that Movember does to stop men dying too young for just £6.

If you're in London, that's less than the price of a pint.

And given that most of the people on the forum appear to be men, the level of self interest in supporting a cause that wants to keep us alive should be huge! :D

So don't delay - grab a ticket today!

    The silence is deafening!

Do I need to find some more watches* to get folks here interested? :cautious:

*from the sizeable stash of things... please don't send me more watches, it's very kind, it doesn't help solve the too many watches problem! :D

    Thanks Dave!

117 tickets sold in the first week - to 38 people.

would be great if a few forum folk wanted to get involved - as it stands, a lot of looking, not a whole lot of taking part! :cautious:
