Hi all. I've been snooping around, looking for a few new speedys to add to the collection, when I chanced upon this piece. Wouldn't have paid much attention to it, until I noticed the number on the back. Apparently, this watch is #0000/1971. If it's legit, I think it's something worth having. However, I've never seen a #00 omega before. Was wondering if any member has experience, owning or seeing a #0 omega before. What makes it more challenging is the fact that the watch doesn't come with box and papers. I've attached some pics for all to see. As always, any thoughts and advice would be immensely appreciated!
Fake, Chrono seconds and bezel are wrong. Additionally number 0 watches are a hallmark of being fakes. I will say execution is scary good on this at first glance. http://www.speedywatches.com/omega-speedmaster-professional-apollo-15-35th-anniversary/ Real one Look at the bezel numbers at 70 and 90. Also look at hand lume. Oddly the bracelet is real but put together from 2 different bracelets. The end links are different and one side is a screw the other is a pin. It’s fully possible parts of this watch are correct like the case and movement and even maybe the dial. But the case back, hands and bezel are fake. It’s a put together Frankenstein’s monster.
0000/XXXX denotes a display watch used by Omega before the sales of the real items start. They don't work as in there is no movement.I'd say its a fake.
Wow thanks for all the tips. Like mentioned earlier, I initially thought it was too good execution to be a fake, but I guess I was wrong. It's sad that people can brazenly put adds for fake watches up on eBay. Thankfully I asked before placing a bid. Not really a big fan of this model to begin with. It was the 00 that struck me. Was looking for an apollo speedy, not Dr Frankensteins monster!! Thanks again for the help!
It's a fake but is has nothing to do with the 0000 number. Everything in this watch is wrong / not original Omega.
Two very easy to spot things: look at the distance of the pushers from the crown and the subdials from each other. They are too far apart, this is due to the movement used, something cheap with a chrono-modul on top but not a 861.
Wow it's really obvious once I put a Pic of the original next to the one on ebay. I'm going to use these pointers as a reference when trying to determine the authenticity of an omega while viewing in the future. Thankfully I asked because I was seriously considering putting a bid in.
Fake yes, but the 'they don't work' bit is wrong. I have had in my have several 0000/xxxx pieces and they both worked, one was even complimented by a letter from Omega its self.
Can we sue Omega for this? We bought based on the faith that there are xxxx pcs around. Now they cause our LEs value to drop by adding a couple more 0000 pcs into the market. Hahaha.
