Thoughts on this Seamaster?

Guy wants $525 for it. I am somewhat concerned of its legitimacy? I have found a reference with this dial / hands combo, but none in this case. I think possibly this is a different case? The lugs look off for a Seamaster with that dial. Thoughts? He claims it is a 1959 Seamaster. He is going to take photos of the movement tomorrow when he takes it to his watchmaker.

Looks ok except for the crown. I would have guessed a little earlier than 1959.

That was my thought as well. The case says mid 50’s to me, but the case doesn’t look off to you? Most Seamaster sub seconds refs I have seen have, idk, smoother lugs?

I don't see a problem. Search for ref 2759 or cal 410.

Oh, that’s exactly it! He said he believed it was a 26X cal so that’s where I was searching. That is definitely the correct ref. Thanks!

Sorry for the double post. Assuming the movement looks all good, thoughts on the price considering the condition?

As I mentioned, the crown is wrong and unfortunately, it's hard for me to really judge the condition of the dial from the photo because the crystal is so bad, so I would have to give you a pretty wide range of $400-$700 in a private sale. I know that's not too helpful.

$525 is too much. You can find nicer examples for this amount of money.

The watch looks kind of tired (especially the dial and case).

So the search continues then. How are these old hand wind movements for daily wear, by the way, in terms of reliability and servicing? I’ve always wanted one. 26X, 410, basically any vintage seamaster with a sub seconds hand.

I think they are all good movements. The issue for daily wear is often water resistance, so the Seamaster models give you a little more protection, or a 30mm movement in a screw-back case, like ref 2639, which is substantially larger at 36mm, compared to the OP watch at 34mm.

No less wearable than anything else, as long as the watch movement was restored to as-new. That's the whole point... daily wear must be serviced. Otherwise, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.
