    Hey guys,

I’m quite interested in this 168.005 and am thinking about putting an offer in, but I’m wondering if anyone else sees wear on the rotor of the movement? It might just be the picture but thought I should ask the professionals. The watch needs a service, would this be easily fixed then? Everything else on the watch seems to be great to me. Clean dial, proper crown, serial # and case seem to be correct. Just needs a new braclet and a little TLC. Any comments would be appreciated. He is asking $1750 CAD

Looks OK to me. But at that price I’d think you could find one already serviced, and in better condition. I’d suggest taking a gander at the sales section here on OF... I think there’s one or two listed currently.

Case and dial don’t look too bad but the pics aren’t really good enough for a definitive opinion.
Is that a mark in the dial between 11 and 12?

Yes some rotor rub but should be an easy fix.
The bracelet is junk so you’re buying head only.
What about those hands with black inserts but none on the indices?
    Wouldn’t necessarily bother me.

£1000 for a dogleg pie pan - not too bad if correct.

Try for better pics or take a chance and make an offer based on the bracelet and required service.

No lume on the dial -or notches on the indices - so no T

I think that would be very, very difficult. Compared to the one recently sold on OF - and that one was a steal - the case on this one is actually better. Look at the facets on the lugs - very nice.

This is all sound advice. The indices seem to have black paint on them - which is probably about right for the serial.
If that mark between 11 and 12 is bad it would be a real shame. Everything else looks great.

I will add that rotor rub can be something that demands spare parts and not just an adjustment, so could well add some $ to the service cost. Have tried that once myself :(

was viewing on my phone earlier -but even on my computer I can tell if it is light reflection or black inserts on the indices.

    better pictures required!

When studying the photos I never gave it a thought that the indices could have black paint. They look silver on the pics which made no sense to me.
Also out of interest @ConElPueblo is it possible to have a 561 with black paint? I only ask because I have only ever seen 564’s with painted indices.

Not something I am that knowledgeable about, but I would certainly investigate further if it was me who was buying... It certainly is a bit of an outlier.

He states in his ad that it is a 21 million serial number. But from the picture quality I do see where you’re seeing that.

I didn’t notice the mark between the 11 and 12 before. I will ask for better pictures to be able to verify this.

I also believe that all the inserts on the dial do have black paint. From what I could find googling around this was a very common dial. Although I am not sure when paired with a 561. I will definitely look into further.

My thoughts were that $1750 was a bit on the higher side. I thought if everything matched up, I would put in an offer of $1450 + shipping.

If 21 million that would make the year of manufacture 1964. If I were you I would research further when black paint was introduced on the 168.005. From what I’ve read and seen it should have onyx inserts on a dial from 64.

Would want to see that mark on 11-12, could be on crystal but on the dial that takes quite a bit off in my book

The lugs aren't bad but have seen better and I think the angle of the photos make them look better than what they are.

And markers could have a few onyx markers missing ( seen that before ) or paint missing

    So better photos are needed

Seems a little high. £1,300 It’s what you might expect for one with the rice bracket with no marks on face from private seller

I have sent a request to the owner for some better pictures showing the mark between 11 and 12. and asked him to include some pictures showing if there are onyx inserts on the markers or if it black painted.

He says that the case has been polished, but "not beyond the original finish". To me the lugs look sharp and to be in good shape, but as STANDY pointed out this very well could just be from the angle of the pictures. The caseback seems to be quite polished though, but the stars and the observatory are still crisp.

True but a couple of pounds more than I’d pay imo

They are, without doubt IMO, better than the one I mentioned in my post. They could be better, yes, but not a whole lot.

OP said CAD 1750 hence the £1000 conversion price I quoted.
Of course if it’s to ship internationall add import costs.

Well after 2 weeks of trying to get pictures with not much progress. I managed to talk the watch down to what I think to be a reasonable price. $1100 CAD + $80 shipping (roughly 680 GBP). The watch arrived this morning and I think it holds up to that price.

Dial is in good shape. There is a little blemish at the 11-12 mark.

The markers are meant to have Onyx inserts, but it seems that all 1-11 are missing. Does anyone know if it is possible to source these? I guess there is also the option of buying a damaged dial and using it for parts.

The lugs are in great condition and still quite sharp. Shows little sign of polishing.

The case back and observatory are also in great shape. A few war wounds from wrong tools.

Overall I am quite happy with this purchase and will now be sourcing a good place for a proper servicing.

Thanks for all your help and advice to guide me in this purchase!
