Thoughts on this flightmaster

Hello wonderful people of Omega Forums!

I've recently got the hankering for a flightmaster and just missed out on an absolutely amazing deal on a yellow handed 145.036. Rather than let that dissuade me it has instead only increased my desire to own one of these beasts...

So I come to you now in the hope that you'll grace me with your wisdom and take a look at this flightmaster which I'm pondering.

I haven't seen the watch in person and the owner doesn't know the ref or caliber but the case seems in pretty good condition, the dial is ok and it seems to be running within tolerances. On the downside the GMT hand seems quite degraded and the Chronograph seconds hand seems to have been replaced at some point.

I'd be keen to know your views on the quality of the watch and whether you think the asking price $3200 USD (given the hand degradation and definite service requirements) is resonable. I'd also be interested in knowing the reference if someone is able to identify it from these images.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

I am a newbie here but have been reading up on these. Seems like a good example and dial looks clean.

1) Is the DC-8 on the caseback present?
2) Also the hands should be either orange or red, not both. I hear hands are available online but no idea if the ones sold online are genuine. So you may need to check that if you plan on replacing hands.
3) Also is the bracelet original or a service replacement?
4) Service will cost a decent sum so make an allowance for that
5) you may need advice from the experts if case has been polished. Either ways I see the required nice starburst pattern.
6) Pushers on other side should have blue and black colour and crown should be the correct reference for the watch, cross check crown with experts.
7) it could be a 0.36 as I seem to see a gasket in there but take that with a pinch of salt and it could very well be a 0.26.

All the best!

Thanks @cruvon!

The strange thing about the chronograph seconds hand is that the tip is orange... so perhaps it has somehow lost some of its colour.

The bracelet is a slightly newer genuine Omega bracelet and the case back has indeed got the DC8 aeroplane on the caseback.

I`d say the chronograph second hand is a tune. Or it is original orange hand with added yellow paint, or yellow hand with red painted tip. I vote for the first option, as the yellow is somehow odd...
the ref is 145.036 , cal 911

I'm not saying that this is the case in respects to the watch I posted above (because the colour is strange) but looking at @Duracuir1 's post and also looking across Chrono 24 it seems that these orange flightmaster hands do degrade to yellow over time and it seems that the main chronograph hand is hardest hit by this colour shift.

Possible seems like. Maybe ask for a closeup picture in sunlight so can see it clearly. I saw a member on another thread also suggest a great idea that should shine UV light on it. If it’s orange hands it will glow. If it’s Cadmium(?) yellow they shouldn’t glow.

Btw did you research sourcing original matching hand sets for the watch?

I’ve had my flightmaster since new and yes the orange hands do fade to a pinkish yellow

Also, kinda depends on how it gets photographed and where the source of light eminates. In hand, mine looks more like these pix, but I had to experiment to get a photograph to get close to actual color/hue/shade.

mmmmm, chocolate👍
