Another aspect to bear in mind:

speedy101 does not tell you how much you SHOULD pay, it tells you how much the last one(s) DID SELL for.

Pay 35k for it and next month the adjusted price on 101 will be that...

I've always preferred tin foil on my head to block the radium.

Good point, and it's worth bearing in mind that watches of this kind are extremely difficult to compare due to all of the variables. Finding a large enough sampling of watches that are so near in quality and attributes to create a price point is nearly impossible. For 145.012 or 145.022 watches, creating a fair price range is fairly simply by comparison.

    My thoughts.

This is a 2998-4 in all original condition with the correct (and probably original) 7077/6 transitional bracelet and very hard to source box. You really don't see a 2998 presented this way very often. Could the plots be a bit more pleasing.....perhaps (but that's me) , but I think these murky off white/red plots are common with the 2998-4. The "5" and "6" have, potentially, that really nice orange radium look . The 7077 is a bit stretched as well. I would grade this watch at very very near collector grade.

    So do some math
    Speedmaster101 collector grade value $24,000
Bracelet plus end links plus box 5000
    subtotal.............................................. $29,000
    Intangibles :
Perfect bezel, one sold on eBay for $4,000 today. Deduct a bit for the stretched bracelet perhaps. It's an original 2998-4 package deserving of a further premium. Lastly, regarding overall values and our $24,000 starting point, @Spacefruit is asking $22,000 for a "good" grade 2998-62. That's $6,000 over his January, 2017 speedmaster101.com price chart! While his 62 may sell for less than ask,I don't think it's going for $6k less.

Final analysis: This 2998-4 is worth well into the $30k's. I don't think the seller will have to wait too long to get his price. Alternatively, I would think the seller might be receiving a communication from the Davidoff Brothers rather shortly. They'll sell it for $50k.

What would be the consensus concerning the crystal: re-install the original one, which seems to have a nice vintage touch to it, or source a new original one from Omega/Otto?

    Just curious.... ;)
