I have been offered a Speedmaster from 1972. It has a stepped dial - but I am concerned about whether the hands have been replaced, or has been re-lumed? Ideally I am after a Straight Writing version, which this isn't - but this one seemed quite good value at £3200 - compared to what else is on eBay at the moment. I don't have a picture of the back - but its the usual circular writing. Can anyone tell me if this is a good buy, or should I just wait? Or could I buy this and sell it making a bit to pay towards the Straight Writing one when it comes along? Any thoughts - much appreciated.
Chrono hand is definitely wrong for a '72. the dial and bezel look pretty ok. if the case is unpolished, it might also add as a pro. just don't know how easy it is to source correct hands for that reference. 72 would make it last of the stepped dials...but as gemini4 said...need more/better pics
They told me its 72 - but I would check the serial number before I buy it - they didn't have it to hand. I can get more pictures - don't have any now. What kind of pictures? Also its pounds - not Euros! Looking at it now myself, the lume looks quite green tbut I guess thats part of why I had my doubts - and I think Eugene is right about the replacement chrono hand. Is it a good buy? Anyone got a better straight writing one they would like to give up!!
Dial/bezel combo is only correct for a 145.022-69 or 71 which could be purchased in 72 and only those 2... (maybe a 74 depending on who you ask)
Its most likely a -71. But with super luminova hands. Need better pics, also get pics on the bracelet and end links. If bracelet is original, assuming a 1171, and the case is in good shape, then you may just need to source a hand set. I have been looking for hands, not easy to find. As far as price, can't really say much without seeing much better pics.
tks, I'm interested to hear is it a sales year 72 or production year based on the movement number. I'm looking a 72 birth year speedy myself.
