Thoughts on the crown of this omega 2846-2848 cal 501?

Good day, I have recently purchased this watch off of ebay, and I do not have the watch yet. However from the provided pictures I notice that the crown looks rather odd, its side is plated in gold, but the side with the omega logo seems to be in its original stainless steel form, any idea whether this is some weird part variant or did it run through the sander? (also I am aware that it is pretty badly scratched, but hey for 450 CAD I will take it).

Nothing weird, the gold cap has simply been worn off.

Another question regarding this watch, the lugs are evidently worn through at the edges, is it worthwhile to try to plate those areas?

This is a gold-capped case and it can't really be replated. I'm not sure that the cap is worn through, that's pretty uncommon. It may be a reflection.

It’s a 2846. The 2848 is the sub second version. The caseback is common to both and double marked which is why you often see these wrongly described. This one is tatty but cheap and the heavy patina is not unappealing.

It’s a well worn crown on a well worn watch. A good match. Think it looks fine if you get a shiny new crown it will look worse.
Best not to worry and plan any work until you have watch in hand
