Thoughts On My First Vintage Buy

I'd appreciate any comments and observations on my new Hamilton Secometer-B. It arrived last night. I wound it at 6pm, and it was still going strong at 8am this morning. It did gain a minute though.

The watch should not gain a minute overnight. The movement probably needs a service and an adjustment.

The dial has been re-painted, as the inking on the logo seems much too thick. With Hamilton collectors, redone dials are not as big of a deal as they are with Swiss brands.

Here is an original 1951 catalog entry for the Secometer B:

Note the distinctive seconds hand with a pointer. I can’t tell if your watch has that or not.

If you bought this at a good price, it is certainly worth investing in the necessary service.

Thanks, it does have the pointer on the second hand. I was thinking the dial had been redone due to the 30 second marking. I'm in for $76 delivered, so as long as it runs well, I'll be happy.

I love these late 40’s Hamilton’s. Bought a Nordon for my Lady as a birthday gift- one of her favorite watches and a brilliant size for those with smaller wrists. Alas at 30mm they are a touch too small for me..if they were 33-35 I would own every model they made during this time.
