Greetings everyone. I am considering the purchase of this 2998-61. The dial appears not redone though am concerned about the lume color and whether the hands are original. I will try to add more photos later on.

Does it appear original and what would be a fair price range. I know the bracelet is not original to the watch (1039)

Imho I would say that the dial lume looks original. The lume on the hands is attractive but perhaps a little too good to be true.

Not that much information to go on here. Need more pictures (movement #, crown etc.). What is the asking price? Looks like it has an incorrect crystal, rehaut should be silver. h/m hands look like they are service replacements.

I believe the minute/hour hands are service replacements and I think crown wrong. The movement and dial look nice.
I suspect it is rather hard to get correct original alpha hands.

Hr and min hands look a bit shiny and lume bright and uniform. Looks a little suspect to me, but appearance appealing. Dial looks nice, case a bit polished, but hey ho. Wrong end pieces. You might want to confirm the bracelet # and date. Nice bezel. In todays market $11.5k is not outrageous IMO

The hour hand should have a more triangular lume plot for a -61.

If the hands were all correct, it wouldn't be a sticking point for me personally if they were re-lumed and everything else on the watch was original and in good shape. As long as they match the lume and are attractive, that's all I would care about (especially on variations like 2998's that are so hard to find in great condition).

$11,500 is a good price, despite the issues. I would snag it. And if you don't send me their way!

Please note that the bracelet is a 1039 but a bit short if that makes difference in price

I know MWO indicates triangle lume for a '61, but you see various 2998's with triangle or straight lume, so who knows what combination of original vs. service replacements we are actually seeing.

    Should be a 7077 or 7912 bracelet with #6 end pieces. The #16's are interesting, as I haven't seen too many (apparently went with a '63 105.012). A 7912 would set you back ~$800. A 1039 is worth $600 - $800. Not sure on the #16's value.
Bottom line, think $11,500 would be ok price for watch head only, so bracelet and end pieces a bonus (and can be sold).

You are correct, the hour hand does not need to be triangular, but in these hands the lume seems squared off rather than rounded, and that
combined with such shiny metal makes me believe these are service hands. The experts will hopefully chime in.

If indeed service hands, this would in my mind significantly lessen the value, as the alpha hands are the defining elements of the 2998.

The watch itself more interesting than end links that are #16. But not sure how you make 20mm ELs fit a 19mm Lug. Filed down, I'd guess.
