Personally I think the criticism is a little unfair but I get where they’re coming from.
The artist has an unerring ability to capture the likeness of a subject but the paintings tend to lack the character or sprit of the subject - which is where brilliant portraiture lies.
They should have commissioned Frank Auerbach instead of Yeo and got a genuinely interesting painting.
