I must admit to being a bit naive with vintage Seamasters. Just thought I would ask for any opinions on this one. From my very limited knowledge it looks to be OK. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Omega-Seamaster-300-165-024-/301808926957?Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network No sign of stubbies. 6 and 9 are open. Doesn't look to be re-lumed? Caseback looks good, everything spelt correctly and flat A. M slightly higher. Case looks a bit battered but OK. Cal 552 with extract and movement number that seems correct. Flat 1 and 4 on the bezel. T Swiss Made T, maybe not very prominent but seems to be there. Not sure about the hands but the Speedy second hand looks OK. Crown is NOS. Seller is local so no Import tax is a bonus. Price is not as important as a good example. I recently missed Togri.V.2.0 Watchco 300 so thought this might be a good example of an original.
Hi, Please attach photos to your post for these kind of questions. That makes the answers good over time - when the link does not work anymore. Otherwise we have to answer the same questions over and over again. If there are pictures - the answers benefit the comunity for a long time - not only you and just now. regards
I agree. This is not a watch reference that I personally have studied in detail though. I hope there are more experts that chime in here.
Hard to tell from the angle of the images, but it looks legit. The big question is would you be happy with the amount of corrosion on the hands and the dirty lume for this price. I think you can do better with patience, personally I would look for a cleaner example.
Thank for the advice. I will probably take a shot at this one. I quite like the hands and the lume even if they are a bit corroded. With the amount of Frankens and fakes around it is hard to find a legit example. If I do buy it I will post some pics.
Congrats, I think it looks great. I hope to add one of these to my collection at some point. Let's see your pics when it arrives...
As an aside, how fragile are the Bakelite bezels. Can they take a knock or two or are they a bit on the fragile side?
Bezel inserts on the earlier 2913 and 14755 are very fragile and are extremely rare to find in original condition. Most have been repaired or replaced; a great many examples of these models are sold without inserts at all. I don't know about the 165.014 bezel much, but I've not personally heard anything about the fragility of the 165/6.024 bezels - they're probably fine. Still wouldn't knock it around though
