    .I was in the city centre this afternoon and had to post a watch off. Now, despite the fact that I've lived here for almost two decades and despite the fact that the city centre is full of fantastic bars, restaurants and attractions, I almost never go in there. Certainly not on a weekday afternoon. In fact, to even find a post office, I had to resort to Google Maps. Coming out of the Post Office, I saw a jeweller's shop with a number of pre-owned watches on display. So, being me, I went in.

    Suffice to say I am now the owner of a sweet little Mark II Speedmaster dating to 1971. My birth year! It was fully serviced at the start of the year by STS who also refinished the case. Now, that would usually be enough to put me off but it's been really well done with perfect chamfers, wonderful bevels, and there's almost no meat been taken off the case. The price was a couple of hundred too much, which again would put me off. Still, these things are bringing £2k now and it's had £600 worth of work done to it... I was still in two minds.

    Then the owner of the shop mentioned a box. And papers. Interest peaked, I asked if the box was original and he went into the basement to fetch it ...

    Picking it up on Saturday after which you can have all the photos you can handle!
    ::bleh::

    I couldn't shake the man's hand fast enough when he brought out the blue crater box ... I just didn't have the cash on me and will have to move money from one account to another before I could pay by card (I'm old fashioned and don't do credit cards).

    A dealer that gets their stock serviced by STS?

    That already is going up and above the call of duty! Great find and look forward to seeing it in action.

    Around here most watch sellers wipe the dust off the crystal and call that a service.

    Very nice. :cool:
    You're so happy with the box and STS service that you didn't even mention the "Military" paperwork!!! :eek: ;)

    I still regret selling one years ago rather than going the full STS refurb and new Racing dial and hands. That (plus shark mesh bracelet) seemed to be all the rage for a while eight or nine years ago but I don't see so many these days.

    Oh, I saw that straight away and smiled that they'd actually entered "Sapper" as a rank. I didn't mention it because I don't really think of a watch bought by a member of the services as being a military watch in the same way that one issued by the forces would be.

    My own regret at parting with my 145.034 was the real reason for buying this one (except once I saw the full set, who could refuse?)

    How cool is that! The heart must have started racing when he mentioned the box and papers.

    If you get a chance I'm interested to know how much the original owner paid.

    The watch was bought from the NAAFI (3103 Bergen, Hohne Lager (Roundhaus) ) but there's no price on the paperwork so I can't help you out, I'm afraid.

    Wow, I love all the additional paperwork + it's always nice buying recently serviced watch by reputable watchmaker/brand SC
