On ebay right nowPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network, from a Peruvian seller with 20 feedbacks, all for buying. Already bid to 1500 sterling at time of writing - I really think this would be chancy. Does anyone recognize the picture? I cannot make up my mind....it is a scam right? Thing is I have a few times had good watches out of Peru, but that was a while ago. The seller has other items, all looking like different photographers. I wont be bidding. Anyone brave?
Yes, I recognize this picture. The watch was on eBay before and relisted at least once. It was sold (or not) by a totally different seller. See ebay item # 331735641406 Scam ahead - stay away! Edit: I remembered the picture when I saw this auction on ebay recently. The auction # I posted was from 2015?
Top reasons to think it's a scam: - New eBay account with only a 20 buyer feedbacks, all in the last month. - Three watches listed at the same time, but none of the photos are similar to each other in background or style (number of photos, watch positions, etc.) (and also some parts, but I could understand if they were photographed differently) Now it's possible that some guy in Peru just happened to sign up for eBay to buy some stuff and to unload some watches he came into. The serial number isn't obscured, looks like 23,449,974 to me, I can't find any hit for it online, but it looks right for a -65. And my initial feeling was that a scammer wouldn't be likely to choose a Speedmaster with such obvious quality issues, but maybe that just means the scammers are clever enough to tell a more tempting/plausible story. I sure wouldn't bid unless I was careful to closely follow all of eBay's buyer protection requirements.
Yes! My missus said her brother and Father are doing "a bit of dee Gringo scamming on e-baaaayz!" If anyone gets turned over, I can give you their address up in the Andes. Here are the culprits. (Edit by order of my Missus) Mrs Bloke has given me a 'bollocking' and told me, "Dees eez serious beezness", and asked me not to exploit pictures of her Peruvian family and friends for the purpose of indulging my juvenile, British, sense of humour.
Not pleased to hear the Lookout It’s From Lima trumpets this weekend. I’m not one who should complain as I’ve launched more than one thread warning of Lima, Lima, Peru. Got scammed from there in my early days but PayPal made good to the penny. HOWEVER I did take a chance again. Might blow up in my face but I felt it was worth the risk. And it’s due to arrive on Monday. So, only happy happy thoughts from me regarding the Peruvians. A least for this weekend.
Just commenting because I want to see the rock he gets from Lima. ( didn’t link he’s post as that’s too much bad juju )
Hey, I can take a punch. 3 years ago my Italian SM300 165.024 arrived as a box with three AAA batteries and I posted it. Hoping for better results this time. Edit: as @oddboy previously mentioned
Every watch deal has some degree of risk. You have to weigh the pros and cons. Sometimes fortune does indeed favor the bold. Common wisdom around here is buy the seller. Never buy from a zero rated ebayer. Well....... Zero rated Ebay seller. March 2015. 145.022-69.
Holy moly, that´s a nice Speedy and I also like such gambles and had some luck in the past. You are a brave OFer
Gambles can be fun, but speedmasters from ebay sellers from Lima, with dubious feedback history, pop out quite too frequently to be a natural phenomenon. It would be interesting to know if someone has had any chanche recently with those. Actually the general mistrust usually translates in quite low end prices.
Why not? My close friend says "If you don't take a swing, you hit nothing". However he's the same friend that has so much money he also says "It's only paper"
