Not the worst we've seen. Kyle ( @kyle L ) once found a Seamaster XVI with a quartz thing stuffed inside of it.
Japanese actually. It's a decent quality "economy" quartz movement, probably a Miyota 2035. I can get them from my supplier for AUD$4.50 so you can imagine how much they pay for them.
Can't you just imagine a legitimate market for "hybrids" like this? Imagine the snowflake generation, wanting "the vibe" but in a trouble-free, 'I'm so cool with this vintage look/pastiche on my wrist"....
Totally agree with others. The dial is completely wrong, the hands have been replaced and the case replaced also. It should look like this
Why not? What makes it go shouldn't be considered holy. Most of the vintage pieces will not be able to find watchmakers keeping them alive, parts will be become more and more impossible to find, partly due to major brand politics . This is analog to refit a vintage car with a battery pack and electric drive.
Wow. I have yet to come across something like that while “fishing”. Crazy what people will do to fix a problem instead of fixing the actual problem
It’s enough to give me nightmares next time I buy a watch movement-unseen. But I suppose that’s part of the fun.
