The sale was for a 9k gold Omega with no mention of the movement or caliber but it looked sharp and I took a chance.

Its been locked away for quite a while and cosmetically it looks great.

I took it to the watchmaker today and asked him to open it up as I did not want to damage the case in any way.

He told me its running strong and is a Caliber 28.

Love the hands on that! Looks like an eccentric but still elegant biplane propeller.

That is a very appealing little watch. The hands are very nice, as is the dial, and the whole thing looks to be in fine condition. Even the crown seems to be the original. Is this a Swiss case, or a UK one?

P.S. I am going to guess that it is a UK case, as it is 9k and that looks like an English hallmark on the back of the lug.

Yes spot on - UK Dennison - the overall condition suggests it has spent most of its life in the box but the wear on the crown swings the other way.

The movement is nickle plated and it was opened long enough for me to see the 28 under the balance but failed to record the ser.no, and I am not going to attempt to take the back off myself.

The vendor did say the number dated to 1944

I think you should take it to the watchmaker again and get a photo of the movement ;) and the inside of the caseback.

I heard it started by John Mc Dibs in Scotland, 1895. Possibly for Dibs-ing a very healthy sheep.(ps: Don't try to check it :p)

The Dennison case dates to 1946/7 (W), which ties in nicely to the movements date of 1944. Of course Britain was still entrenched in WWII in 1944, so my guess was that the Swiss were still churning out movements with a reduced market, and started to sell these in greater numbers after the war ended. I,ve seen a few early 40's movements housed in late 40s ALD cases in the UK

    nice watch
