This 1940s Omega just sold at my local auction for £2800. Why did it sell that high?

This looks to be a 2365 so the smaller case size. Price is a little on the high side with the dial in that condition, but it appears all original in its parts.

I know this opinion may not be popular but the watch may be historic but not pretty IMO... 😵‍💫
Put a new Omega crystal on it and it will look 1000% better.

I think the OP got a pretty hard time here and was treated with condescension a little. That movement is indeed special, the regulator shows you that immediately but to my eye that doesn’t look like a particularly attractive piece for £2800 (possibly plus a large buyers premium) so I too would have thought it was an over the top price. If my assumptions are correct this was nearer $5k! If anyone cares to show me similar rough condition ‘40s chronometres fetching similar money I will wind my neck in!
