Thinking of next watch

Hi All,
I’m not a watch collector but...... having purchased a brand new speedy about 8-9 years ago I came across the phrase “birth year watch” several times during my research. Once I’d ordered my new speedy I looked into the birth year watch ‘thing’ and within months one came up in my local watch shop so I purchased it.

Fast forward a few years and I joined OF to ask questions about my birth year watch and, by some miracle, it seems I have a genuine, period correct speedy made in my year of birth, now freshly serviced by Simon Freese, thanks to all the help and advice from OF.

Now I’m thinking about my next watch 🤦 and wanted to ask opinions on two possible directions I’m considering. Firstly, I like the idea of another birth year watch and, having looked at various Omegas, the one that sticks out is the Speedy MK11. Alternatively, I could by a birth year watch for my wife but, having looked extensively at vintage Omegas, I cannot find anything that would suit her.

So, I’m looking for opinions on the MK11 and, I suppose, wondering if anybody has a 1976 example that they would sell once I’m able to purchase through OF or if anybody has purchased a vintage Omega for their other half or themselves that I could consider for my wife, born in 1977?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I was originally focused on a "birth year" watch but had the importance to me fade as I immersed in the hobby. I seemed to feel over time that my birth was of no more historic importance to me than that of my parents, grandparents, wife, sons, daughters, world events, etc.

Time is so abstract and the art of horology covers so much that I feel pinning down a concise moment on the calendar
as the measure to celebrate a life or a love...well, I found it inadequate.

If your Brides birthyear is your focus, check out the DeVille line from 1977.
The 34mm avg. size is wonderful for the fair ladies these days and the classic, simple lines are timeless.
Google 1977 Omega and you'll be off to a good start.

I have searched a lot for “1977 omega ladies” and nothing would suit her. I’m actually now considering a speedy reduced with MoP dial and diamond bezel. I’ll put it to her and see what she thinks and, if she likes, them that’s a box ticked and I can continue the hunt for a MK11.
