I've been thinking about adding a diver to my collection for a while. After seeing @master of speeds, I am very tempted by a Croton Nivada Grenchen. There are two I am looking at one on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Croton-Ni...e-Venus-210-/201414480586?hash=item2ee53d12caPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network And a tropical one on Chrono24 http://www.chrono24.co.uk/all/croton-nivada-grenchen-tropical-dial-1963--id3493774.htm really appreciate any advice or enabling encouragement
Hi! These came with various movements. Before deciding I suggest doing a little research into what movement is inside. It makes loads of difference for collectors if you ever decide to move it along. The tropical one does not look original to me. I more than guess the lume has been redone. Here's mine (Valjoux 92) as a comparison:
Thanks for the pics, yours looks pretty sharp, most out there seem to be quite polished. Yes, I had read about the different movements, I guess I should be looking for a column wheel, like yours, better resale value? may just have to be a bit more patient
Hmmm... this one looks better, with a valjoux 92 onboard and not so polished, but someone has butcherd the caseback https://www.chrono24.co.uk/nivada/chronomaster-aviator-sea-diver-vintage--id3453053.htm
Really good ones come up from time to time, around $1000 or so. A Valjoux 23 with arrow hands is, I think, the best way to go. It should also say Nivada somewhere on the dial for maximum resale value (not just Croton).
