Thinking about trading my Explorer 114270 for a 14270

don't wanna get in a pissing match, but a speedmaster and explorer have very different case designs. Speedmaster has shorter lugs and they are pretty straight. On a oyster case, the lugs curve down and extend beyond the endlink. But yeah, I agree that the 14270 is the watch to get if you are going to wear it on a strap. I wish I had one for that purpose!

That's true, but if you look at older Explorers and Oyster case Rolexes the lug holes were right in the corners of the lugs, so they were much more strap friendly . On modern Rolexes, especially after they removed drilled lug holes, the lug holes are about as close to the case as they'll go. Meaning even if a strap fits, it just doesn't look right.

Yes, I totally agree with that but I must also point out that the old bracelets do not fit old explorers well at all, expecially 7836 and 7206. Jubilees work though.

I bet Rolex knows exactly what they are doing, and that having spring bars closer to the case side makes for a more secure fit of the end links to the case. The watch was not designed to be interchangeable with straps.
