I've been lurking on the forum for a while because I've always fancied a speedmaster so I thought I would introduce myself. Having my first name and being born in 69 draws me towards the speedmaster. My first proper watch was a 147 Chronostop which is still in my collection along with a few Heuers and other things. I've been drawn toward Heuers recently because I'm investing in historical motorsport. I've been reading http://speedmaster101.com which is a very nice reference. I like to buy quality but I wear my watches so I'm certainly not looking for NOS or collector piece. The only project watch I've bought is turning into a mare. I find two adverts both appear to be priced in the good to collector standard? Is the market moving that quickly that the price chart is already old or I've misunderstood the rating? Perhaps I need to lurk a little longer and see some more watches come onto the market. Looks like the forum is willing to help advise on watches from ebay if I go that route?
Hi Neil. I'm sure the Speed Freaks will happily help you vet vintage Speedmasters. May I suggest a nice Audemars Piguet or Jaeger LeCoultre instead? No you may not!
Hi Neil, You've come to the right place if you want a speedy, and sp101 is the best place to start. Take your time, get to know th refs, get a feel for condition, learn more about the history and the brand and keep your eyes peeled! You will find many here ar willing to help vet a potential purchase. It's always better to ask first unless you're really really sure. Enjoy the journey and the hunt! You'll have a speedy on your wrist before you know it. In the meantime, post some pics of what you have! Cheers,
Since you asked! I'm crap at photos. On my wrist today a GP Seahawk. Smaller than my most of my others but lovely hands
Oooooooo, I've been overruled by somebody above my pay grade! It's a cat-tastrophe! I think that can be arranged.
I think that I'm beginning to move away from the Speedmaster Dark side and will begin to look for my first Vintage JLC, or maybe since Ulack suggested it, he is the Dark Side.....
Unfortunately I'm not allowed to post in the wanted section but I can't believe I missed this Oris Driver. It was on my list. If the buyer doesn't like it or anybody else has one I'm interested. https://omegaforums.net/threads/vintage-oris-divers-sixty-five-from-1965.37051/#post-423101
Lovely pictures of Vulcains! Stay patient and wait for the right one. It took me 8 months or so of occasionally checking the for sale classifieds before I pulled the trigger. I went through George Kringkily on the forums and everything was smooth just keep your eye's peeled, be patient, keep learning, and the right one will come along.
