I am thinking about getting a new Speedmaster, but there are so many different versions. Does anyone have a recommendation or opinion on which one I should go with?? Thank you

Over/Under 75% recommend a 3570.50? BTW: Put me down on the Over ;-)

that is classic. What are folk's thoughts on speedmasters without the 861 movement? Dark side/gray side of moon watch?

So much information out there if you'd like to peruse. The Speedy Pro 3570 is the classic, while the newer automatic and co-axial models are riffs on the classic with their own positives and negatives. The biggest negative of the grey side/dark side is that their ceramic cases are prone to chipping and cracking and replacement is extremely expensive (case will cost the same as a new 3570). Best bet is trying them at an AD to see what sings to you. Best of luck in the search

Thanks. I didn't know that about the ceramic case. That alone makes me want to stay with the classic.

I much prefer the original one for its manual wind. But with that said I kinda like the idea of a modern touch of today and using sapphire glass. It's not like I'll be on the moon anytime soon. But im fairly certain to knock my wrist into a door knob in the next 48 hours, lol

I'd ask how much money you want to spend.

I'd prefer the speedy moonphase myself if I could find one.

Whoa Whoa Whoa!!!!!! Prone to chipping/cracking is a totally misleading characterization. They are not prone to chipping and cracking. Please don't spread FUD like that. Many of us own the DSOTM or GSOTM, some of us have even dropped our watches on tile floors, with no damage at all - but like with any watch, if you abuse it, it may let you down. Is it possible to chip/crack ceramic - yes, is it possible to do the same on stainless steel? yes. If you are worried about damaging any of your fine watches, then get them insured and don't worry about it.

    Speedy wish list:

    Meteorite Speedy
    Gemini IV
    Apollo 11, 35th (panda)
    Birth year Speedy (premoon)
    Speedy Moon phase
    GSOTM

Maybe start with a 3570 to get your feet wet...I started with a 3572. I then picked up a Gemini IV and converted my 3572 to a panda.

Pic is because all threads should have a pic :)

I'm in the 75% camp. Omega makes only one iconic watch and its the speedmaster professional moonwatch with hesalite crystal. Most of the limited editions don't float my boat, especially the ones with a tacky image on one of the subdials. The ones posted above are very nice however.

The more I see the pic above the more I want those watches! I need to just go to the Omega store and try a few on. (Really like the Panda )

I tried on @repoman Meteorite and GSOTM. I think the Meteorite is just amazing. The GSOTM is in a whole different category.

In any case, most of the older LE are not available at the boutique.

If you go to the boutique on the Titanium Speedy, it is truly amazing. I would actually consider trading my Gemini IV for that one.

the boutique near me has the DSOTM. I worried if I put it on, I won't be able to take it off.
