This is still a work in progress.....
The Things With Springs Clubhouse room is meant for a Live watch forum experience with a small GTG. We are striving for a collector to collector conversation.. Having collectors either email me a photo of their watch ( or they can join the forum and reply to this thread ) so we can " chat" about it in real time... Just to be clear we dont have to talk about a posted watch ... this is a free flowing room on topics on vintage watches and things around watch collecting ... And at the end of the GTG when everyone leaves the CH room... and the room no longer exists ... This thread will remain as a quasi record of the event and we can later go back and refer to.... Hear you at 3:00 pm DST Sunday ....

Hello everyone

This is a use case for why you should join the Nawcc….

I was going over a auction catalog when I came across a lot titled :

“Morris Tobias Binnacle Clock, Circa 1810”

The auction house had two other pieces from the same maker…. I just found it interesting and wanted to learn more about them… Started to google but very little just a few older auction listings ….

I then turned to …. Nawcc website and searched the online database of the NAWCC BULLETINS …. I came across a fantastic article written by back in 1986 . I was able to download the pdf …. It did lead me to buying all three lots !

The premise of these binnacle timekeepers is to let the sailor know when to strike the ship’s bell and the number of strikes in and easy to read display ! This was the precursor of the Ship’s bell clock.

Good hunting and spread the passion
