hi everyone

Just a FYI . this is still a work in progress..... The Things With Springs Clubhouse room is meant for a Live watch forum experience with a small GTG. We are striving for a collector to collector conversations.. having collectors either email me photo of there watch ( or they can join the forum and reply to this thread ) so we can " chat" about in real time... Just to be clear we dont have to talk about a posted watch ... this is a free flowing room on topics on vintage watches and things around watch collecting ... And at the end of the GTG when everyone leaves the CH room... and the room no longer exist ... This thread will remain as a quasi record of the event and we can later go back and refer to.... Hear you at 4 pm EDT Sunday ....

THINGS WITH SPRINGS CH CHAT 10/09/22
Remember the Clubhouse room is only as good as the collectors that join in.... please post a watch, timepiece , clock etc you want to chat about.

Be Safe

Good Hunting

For some reason, I can't stop buying the vintage Citizen challenge divers. I'm up to six, with two more on the way. Of the eight that I will soon have, there are six different variants, plus a military issued example from Pakistan.

I've spent the last two months researching Vénus, the legendary chronograph maker. I just published my article, and I think you all will enjoy it!

I recently picked up this Nivada Grenchen CASD that doesn't have all the busy writing on the dial. I've seen it called a "gray no-name" dial. Valjoux 23 movement.

Benrus Sky-Chief with Valjoux 71 with a pointer that rotates using the coin-edge bezel. Please excuse the filthy movement photo, for some reason it's the only one I can find. Sweep hand not original.

This must have been a pretty early Valjoux 175. I believe it is early 40s.

My research shows that Vénus introduced Cal. 175 in 1942 with production starting a few years later. Breitling archives suggest that it was delayed until 1944 or so since they shipped some 175 watches with a Cal. 150 with spacer inside!

Vénus essentially abandoned the column wheel movements in the 1950s. First Moscow Watch Factory was already in production with Cal. 150 clones by 1959, and Tianjin was producing their Cal. 175 clone by 1963. So these movements remained in production but not in Moutier! I couldn't find any hard evidence of these sales but do not dispute these dates. It makes perfect sense since Vénus moved from their original factory to the former Pierce factory by 1960 and wouldn't have wanted to take this old tooling with them.

This bad boy is my Vénus grail watch: Cal. 211 had a dual-disc "big date" 40 years before A. Lange & Söhne!

Here's a "Philippe" brand one I spotted on Chrono24...

I was looking at this nice 32.5mm 1943 Omega today that was on eBay in Germany. It was at €431 an hour before it ended but, I don’t know how much it sold for.

Here’s another one I’ve spotted today on eBay for £1400. A white gold Dennison cased 1939 movement. Really nice but again small. There was so much info I put the description in at the bottom.
