hi everyone

I lost my voice and have a major sinus infection .. so is impossible for Me to be coherent..

but I will open the room.. but I won’t be able to last too long as long as one or two other regulars are there to “ run it” …. If not room w close early …

Just a FYI . this is still a work in progress..... The Things With Springs Clubhouse room is meant for a Live watch forum experience with a small GTG. We are striving for a collector to collector conversations.. having collectors either email me photo of there watch ( or they can join the forum and reply to this thread ) so we can " chat" about in real time... Just to be clear we dont have to talk about a posted watch ... this is a free flowing room on topics on vintage watches and things around watch collecting ... And at the end of the GTG when everyone leaves the CH room... and the room no longer exist ... This thread will remain as a quasi record of the event and we can later go back and refer to.... Hear you at 4 pm EDT Sunday ....

Hello Everyone

I just got back from the NAWCC NATIONAL Convention ( one day there and back ) I started at 8 am and got home 1:56 am the next day .

I was a great mart ! The room had so much energy !
Ran into some people I have not seen since 1995 my old local chapter 7 DC MEETINGS !

had a chance to chat w Nick Vincent Butt, Brian Albert, Rhett Lucke, John Cote, Stephen L Franke, David Lindow, Chris Hooper , Michael L Schlotterbeck , Eric Wind, Charles Dunne ,Chester Hicks, Fred S. Mandelbaum ….
I know I am forgetting people … but it was great .

Breitling watches ( a sponsor of the show) has a great display at the show , sorry I did not take pics but the best part of the exhibit is Fred Mandelbaum Breitling Historian is there to present and answer any and all questions … amazing !

Fred , Eric and Charlie will be doing a panel on vintage watches and John promised me he will record it and post for all to see !

AWCI w David Lindow and Stephen Frankie was in the process of making a clock ( I think ) for the auction …. I was impressed to say the least .

I am including more people pics ! As that is what makes this special …..

Good hunting

Hello Everyone

Just got back from the National and it show and tell time ….

Let’s play .. “what did you get at the NAWCC NATIONAL CONVENTION”!

I normally never get the “deal” like that. 8 1/2 SPECIAL GRAND COMMANDER … that was at the show … another member snapped that one up…

I was just walking down the aisles and came across a Seth Thomas 8 1/2 nickel marine clock …dial was re-silvered and movement freshly serviced … it was a nice looking clock but nothing “ special “ so to speak ….. The seller said to look at the back of the clock … it had an inscription “ A gift from the 11th Pursuit Squadron ADKA ALEUTIAN ISLANDS ALASKA
October 1945”.

I was intrigued to say the lest and I bought it ..

I have been googling about it the last few hours ..

So far what I have found from Wikipedia

Constituted as the 11th Pursuit Squadron (Interceptor) on 20 November 1940
Activated on 15 January 1941
Redesignated 11th Fighter Squadron on 15 May 1942
Inactivated on 15 August 1946

Nickname, The Aleutian Tigers

Shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the 11th was dispatched to Elmendorf Field to reinforce the defenses of Alaska against Japanese attack, departing on 19 December.[5] The urgency of the need for reinforcements in Alaska was so great that the squadron was picked even though its pilots were untrained on the flight conditions they could expect to experience in Alaska. Two weeks elapsed before the planes reached the Sacramento Air for winterization, and at the end of the month when the 11th was officially located at Elmendorf, none of its planes had left McClellan Field. Bad weather delayed necessary test flights and caused the loss of some of the squadron's Warhawks. The first plane finally left California on 1 January 1942. The lack of adequate landing fields en route, poor communications, and pilot inexperience further delayed the squadron's movement. By 25 January only 13 of the 11th's twenty-five P-40s were at Elmendorf in flyable condition and six others had been lost during the movement.
[2][6]

After the Japanese invasion of the
Aleutians in June 1942, the squadron was engaged in combat operations 1942–1943, equipped with P-40 Warhawks and long-range
Lockheed P-38 Lightnings for offensive operations against Japanese fortifications on Attu and Kiska ; took part in the liberation of Attu, 1943. It remained in the Aleutian for the balance of the war, inactivating on Shemya in August 1946, when its personnel and equipment were transferred to the 64th Fighter Squadron.
[2][7]

Also found a great picture of a P-40 from the 11th as well as the squadron jacket patch .

Still doing more research but it a start , I know if not a marine clock w a boats name on the dial ….

Good hunting

Saw this on the Rolex subreddit, had to share. I feel like this encapsulates so many things about modern Rolex - everything from being at the call of the AD to exemplifying the status symbol nature of modern Rolex.

Late to post, I was tied up in NAWCC presentations all afternoon. But I bought a few items at the mart pictured below and a couple of pictures of the vintage wristwatch panel discussion Eric Wind and Charlie Dunn, Fred Mandelbaum (vintage Breitling expert) and Gianfranco Gentile (Breitling Heritage Director). Breitling was a sponsor so they had a bigger presence there.

I have a bird like that one.

Well more than one. And a few in cages. Such items are what got me into the whole watch thing.
