hi everyone

Just a FYI . this is still a work in progress..... The Things With Springs Clubhouse room is meant for a Live watch forum experience with a small GTG. We are striving for a collector to collector conversations.. having collectors either email me photo of there watch ( or they can join the forum and reply to this thread ) so we can " chat" about in real time... Just to be clear we dont have to talk about a posted watch ... this is a free flowing room on topics on vintage watches and things around watch collecting ... And at the end of the GTG when everyone leaves the CH room... and the room no longer exist ... This thread will remain as a quasi record of the event and we can later go back and refer to.... Hear you at 4 pm EDT Sunday ....

THINGS WITH SPRINGS CH CHAT 04/17/22

Remember the Clubhouse room is only as good as the collectors that join in.... please post a watch, timepiece , clock etc you want to chat about.

Be Safe

Good Hunting

Show me your Léonidas watches! I just wrote a detailed history of Leonidas for my blog, and would love to talk about this often-overlooked company. Léonidas was a high-end brand for the Russian imperial court (along with Breguet, Buhré, and Moser), an innovator in chronographs, a leader in upscale watches after the war, and (amazingly) a high-volume producer of cheap stopwatches. Oh, and they merged with Heuer just after Jack W. Heuer took over. Where are they now?

Hello Everyone
I have been told stories about horrible packing jobs and the loss of a 100 plus year old
item . Think about it for example a clock that survived over 100 years and due to either inexperience or just poor judgement gets damaged and or destroyed in transit. There is also the counter intuitive example where a dealer has to ship for example an 8 1/2 dial Mariner. The dealer hires a shipping company to properly pack and crate the clock . Only upon arrival a spoke or two were broken off the clock in transit .
That brings me to my latest arrival . The box arrived with a noticeable impact on one of the corners of the box. As soon as I saw it I was hoping for the best and expecting the worst . I took pictures of the unboxing and wanted to share it with the group. I might have missed a few during the stress and excitement. ..
I have to commend the seller for what he did to protect the "package" . As I opened the box I was presented with an interior layer of egg crate corrugated cardboard. forming in inner box on all six sides. I then removed the "inner cover" to see an additional cocoon of egg crate corrugated cardboard and then the clock is shrink wrapped to keep it together without using adhesive tape ( bad things happen to clock finish when you put shipping tape on a clock finish a topic of another post).
Hope this helps others thing about before shipping a clock... I have clocks in my collection that have a ding on the bezel due to the fact of improper shipping.
Good Hunting
Bill

Here's a vintage Piaget ad from Indicateur Davoine showing a very similar coin watch design (crown at 1, cutout inside the hobnail on the face), and I know they made a ton of these watches through the 1960s!

I'm going in person- been a while since I've done anything like this!

And Ebel sold these coin watches too. Here's a 1956 article from Europa Star showing an identical coin watch.
