Flying the ensign of the United States of America…properly…which includes illuminating it at night.

I’ll raise you one and say knowing the difference between America the Beautiful and The Star-Spangled Banner, and knowing more than one verse of the latter, and knowing when to remove hats and place hands over hearts.

Thinking about changing my subtitle to Grumpy Old Man.

Apparently turning on headlights while driving at night. I've seen on average two or three people trucking down the highway with their lights off every day I commute home from work...I think it may be a product of 'daylight running lights' giving them just a little visibility up front, and 'auto' settings causing them to just assume they are on, but it's a little startling to see a dark colored car with no tail lights running at full tilt on a crowded highway around the metropolitan main roads.

Or turning them on in the rain or fog. I agree with your assessment that the auto feature has ruined basic light discipline.

Knowing to check your lights when someone signals you, but seems people aren't checking the rearview mirror or paying attention what happens in front of them.

Also notice occasionally drivers not aware the windshield wipers are turned on while it's dry, how can you not be aware.::facepalm1::

As we add more and more 'features' to our cars, I've always thought lights should automagically turn on when windshield wipers are activated. Doesn't solve for fog though

Living a bit remote to most on here…

1) be smart enough to carry cash as a remote Gas station in the middle of the Australian outback won’t have a Wifi or phone service
1b) said Gas station won’t be open after 7pm
1c) same Gas station won’t have 99% of what a city one has

Oh the dumb shit I see….like tourists waiting for sun up as they arrived at 8pm and the service station shuts at 7pm. Only to realise they need a physical card to use the ATM and they can’t just use their phone swipe payment system or transfer money without wifi to anyone to pay for their fuel. Forgetting that they will need a full tank to get to the next similar place 350km away.
I love the Daly Waters pub. You have to take a picture of the bowser after you fill up so they know how much to charge you.

Tim's Junk Yard is actually an impressive automotive museum. (apologies for the thread diversion)

And the petrol pumps are often called bowsers.

Very few people can operate a slide rule even to do simple multiplication or division, most young people have never even seen one.

Operate a pocket calculator with RPN (reverse Polish notation) made popular by H-P. Still have my H-P-11C circa 1984 on my desk, use it everyday.

I had a retired prof give me a slide rule. I am too young to have ever needed to use them. I understand the principle of using lengths to add and subtract. I also understand how on the logarithmic scale multiplication and division become addition and subtraction. So in theory I should be able to use the slide rule, but in practice the writing is way too small for my aging eyes.
