Okay, so that got your attention! But it might be an accurate statement and not just hyperbole.
I've been attempting to collect all the vintage Speedmaster models from their inception through to this model from circa 1977.
These very rarely come up for sale, infact while you might see three 2915 models for sale in a year, its likely you will only see one or two of these. The official Omega database makes no reference to them at all (not much of a surprise as its chock full of inaccuracies!) and theres very little other information around.
The good news, though, is that they are still one of the cheapest Speedmaster professionals around. I paid only £250 stirling ($400 US) for mine, although they usually go for more like $1,000 US +.

Certainly an oddity! - Do you like it or hate it?

    Case ref: 186.0004
    Bracelet ref: 1305.741
    Movement: 1620

I've seen quartz LCD Speedmasters from that era, but I've never seen one marked as a Professional with a pseudo-moonwatch case before

I like it, although I would never pay anywhere near $1000. What is case diameter?

I can't remember the exact diameter off hand, but its more the size of the automatic Speedmaster rather than the full size hand wound Professional model. I'll check on it later.

I appreciate the scarcity but don't like the look. As a collectible, might be pursued by some who are "completists" but I would rather buy several examples of the same watch if I like the watch a lot.

I know, I know. I'm no fan of quartz watches - it's just an oddity!
Interesting to note that it was twice the price of a manual wind speedy at the time!!

And polyester leisure suits were in back then. Lots of things were wrong with the world's perception of taste & quality in the 70's.

I agree. I am being a bit completist about this vintage Speedmaster thing, although I really like all the vintage models. I guess this is the only one I wouldn't have bought anyway. Having said that, its grown on me since owning it - I might even wear it outside the house one day!

I agree that if there is anything to be completist about vintage omega it is the speedmaster line - that will take a lifetime! I pick the pieces I like (and usually what others like as well) and buy them again and again and again. I actually wouldn't mind having 20 examples of the same thing if it is a piece I love and is in demand. But that's just me and I certainly understand and respect others who have different philosophies. Of course it goes without saying that I try to buy wisely while doing so.

    Hi

There is room in every Omega collection for an LCD Speedmaster....these are truly rare & great pieces !

The watches movement is cal 1620, not to be confused in any way shape or form with modern LCD movements. This movement has a circa 5 SPM accuracy as a result of a high quality 32Khz quartz resonator.

    Hi

    Thanks for the welcome....

This LCD is a lovely example....they are a slightly smaller than a Speedy Auto....but very difficult to find - I only know of four others (above now makes five)....and two of those are in museums (Omega UK (STS) & Bienne).

Very nice! Has it been restored at all? I'm tempted to send mine to STS for a revamp.

    Hi Ash

STS still support & service the 1620 movements....the bakelite /plastic bezels are a bit more of an issue if damaged....luckily my one was minty.

Budget on £300 + VAT for a full service....if the watch is functioning correctly (does your light work ? - mine's fine  ) & just needs some cosmetic work to the case & BCT the figure will be around £100 + VAT.

I opted for the case & BCT refurb plus a new crystal & battery change....bill was around £170 from memory.

As you can see , I can highly recommend STS for the results.

    Hi

They are nice enough....Although I really wanted the version that referenced the iconic Speedy case design....and is the only 1620 to use 'Professional' on the dial....just like the 321 & 861's....so it had to be a ST186.0004
