I was pretty bummed that I got distracted at the last minute at work and missed this listing's end by just a couple seconds:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111205640901?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

I had offered the seller $750, but they didn't want to cancel the bids with 4 days left. Guess they lost out too - they left $140 on the table.

.... but there's the thing ..... the Watch Gods take care of those who help n00bs so they threw me not one but two bones!

Well, Norm actually threw me the first one:

It's just like the one I helped Mike vet a few weeks ago. I was missing a caliber 280 from the box and this should fill it nicely.

Now it gets interesting. Even I had to contact Longines to verify this one, and thanks to a fellow Longines collector and member here I now have the vintage ad for this watch too:

Yep, a for realzy and truzy Silver Arrow! Best part is that it's the very uncommon (maybe rare does work here) caliber 23ZDS date version. It is a bit of a gamble with the mediocre pictures, but we'll see if my instincts are still good and the Watch Gods took care of me. Here's the ad, followed by the picture Longines sent me that verified the dial and case reference were correct:

Of course, I still want to upgrade my 22A at some point but that will have to wait.

They say it comes in threes. Seller's pics:

We'll see if it's as good as I hope. This one fills a few holes in my Longines collection. Didn't have a stainless steel Flagship nor one with that medallion, didn't have a caliber 345, and even the year (1967) was unrepresented.

The Ship on a steelie? Sure it's not white gold? :)
Guess I learn something new here everyday. And I'm not complaining!

So how are you going to wear it AND protect the medallion at the same time? (Sorry, shameless cross-thread reference!)

Yes, I saw the inside of the case back - plus there are no hallmarks on the back of the lugs. The medallions with enamel paint came on most steel later model (mid to late 60's) Flagships. It's not a hard rule though as some versions had engravings. You've got me thinking that the in-house calibers had the medallions and the rebadged movements had engravings, but I'd really have to research that. It would be a good project though. I'm going to put my favorite search word in this post so I can find this later to remind me to look into this.

    Ecclesiastical

    There, done.

Don't know if I'm going to wear it often enough, or at all, to worry. I know I won't be wearing my caliber 341 date-at-12 Flagship nor my caliber 291 date-at-12 Conquest. They're too nice to screw up. That's what they make Admirals for. :D

Do you really think it's the actual wearing it that damages the enamel rather than the banging it down on the bedside table every night?

Don't know. Oil & sweat probably do have an effect on the enamel. If they're stored properly they don't get damaged though.

Guess what? The buyer of the 22A in the first picture backed out. Seller contacted me with a fair Buy It Now and I claimed it!

Awesome! All is right with the world again. Just make sure it's not a swindle "Second-chance offer." I have gotten those in the past.

No, it came via eBay messaging system from the original seller and the invoice was correct too so it seems on the up & up.
Honestly, I don't care if the buyer who backed out was a shill or not because the price was very close to what I offered the seller in the first place.

...and a copy of the email is in your Ebay Inbox, right? Not just copied to your regular email?

Yes - my eBay inbox. It's the ONLY area I bother to look at. I just delete the ones that come via e-mail, except the Paypal receipts for payment and notice of purchase from eBay. I keep those two until I have my filthy little mitts on the item.
