The Waiting List Is Real…

After a 12 month wait I finally got the call from a local AD that the watch I put my name down for had arrived. I have zero purchase history with the AD so I didn’t think I’d ever actually get a call.

So on New Year’s Eve I went down to the AD and collected this lovely Explorer II Polar Dial 226570.

I’m not to wear it until my wedding next month (other than getting the obligatory wrist shot) so it’s giving me a good chance to see how I like it before I start giving it some real wear and tear.

I didn’t want to let the opportunity pass me by and as we have the budget for it I took the opinion of, see how it goes and worst case if I don’t think it’s worth the cost I can sell it on in the future.

Congratulations on both your forthcoming wedding and watch. It looks amazing and good to hear that patience pays off with regards to the Rolex waiting list.

Yes, I’m from the UK.

When I first put my name down I remember researching Rolex wait times and a few people were suggesting that sales assistants were saying that you were put on a “waiting list” but you didn’t actually go on any waiting list.

I didn’t buy into those rumours but I did go into one local AD who flat out said I’d need a good purchase history with them before I’d be allowed to go on a waiting list. I asked him what a good purchase history is and he said a minimum of £10k so I said well I’m not here to wait your time or my money, I don’t want any of your other offerings so I’ll have to look elsewhere.

The good news is I had zero purchase history with the AD who actually got me the watch. I only went in to see them once in that time when I noticed that they had a black dial Explorer II in their window so I wanted to actually try one on to make sure it looked good in person and on the wrist. This was with a different sales assistant as I had no appointment but I asked him regarding my wait time and whilst he couldn’t give a specific time he was confident that one would arrive before the wedding and he was correct.

My only advice would to be to pop in to the AD and politely ask for an update.

Nice, thanks for sharing the info.
I've actually considered putting my name down for the same watch...for science and research purposes lol.

They are some extremely important purposes so I think you should probably get down to your AD lol

Speaking with the SA she did say that wait times were starting to reduce on most models except for the extremely popular models (Pepsi, Batman, Daytona, etc and for gold models) so fingers crossed it continues that way.

Yeah, I have to say I was very impressed with the whole process. There was no bs’ing everything they told me was spot on and their service was excellent.

It also happens to be the only AD I’ve been to that sells both Omega and Rolex, it always a joy to pop in and have a look at their watches.
