    Hi all,

I thought my foray into the vintage Rolex world was over when I purchased a full set 16750 in September (thread HERE), but another buying opportunity arose that I couldn't pass up.

I owned a 5513 Submariner before but did not bond with it, so I did not think I would be interested in another Sub. I gave this one a shot and am loving it!

The case retains the original fat chamfers and the dial/hands have aged to a really pleasant patina. In fact, it is very similar to the 16750 as you can see in the side-by-side photo below. The top hat crystal is also very interesting - I have never owned a watch with such a tall acrylic crystal. The bezel insert has one tiny scratch around 15 min marker but has started to fade slightly. The lume pip is original tritium and matches the rest of the watch nicely. As a bonus, it came on a 9315 folded link bracelet with "PATETED" diver extension.

I hope you enjoy the photos. I'm really hoping this is my last vintage Rolex - my bank account isn't too happy right now!

Nice one! That's exactly how a red 1680 should look IMO.

Fantastic find Mike, congrats! I love how thick the original chamfers are on late 60s/early 70s submariners, really sets them apart from later editions of the 1680 white and maxi dial 5513. Enjoy it and dibs!!!

    Dynamic duo!

Both stellar examples. The 16750 matte dial is my favourite reference of all time. If I had one regret, it would be me selling mine a few years ago. Can't afford to get one. And the red sub has always eluded me. I was never able to latch on to one when they where somewhat obtainable.

    Huge congrats on both!

    Congrats!

Perhaps a little clean at 2o clock. Might be a bit dusty behind the crystal?

16750 matte dial is by far my favorite reference...the Red Sub isn't bad either ;-)

Congrats on your score, wear them in good health.

Wow that’s stunning. The lugs are probably one of the sharpest I’ve seen. Congrats and wear in good health!

That's 1680 crystal is off the chain, the patina is ridiculous, everything about that watch is insane....congrats on the acquisition.
