Evening All, First thread here but thought I would see if anybody has already seen/discussed this 145.012 with an orange hand? After contacting the seller they indicated the short hand is due to potential damage snapping the end off. It’s a lovely looking watch but everywhere you read about ultras there is only one rule... ‘extract essential’ I imagine this still applies to us in Australia? (I imagine especially so...) http://www.watchseller.com.au/watch...ropical-dial-reference-145-012-67-super-rare/
Nope, below is the response after enquiring. “Thanks for your interest. Sale is by way of EOI. Plenty of interest and offers but the watch is still available for now. No extract from the omega archives however we believe it to be right on the Money.”
There currently a couple going around (2 on eBay), didn't even know about this one so close to home! Edit. Except I think the serial is wrong, shouldn't it be 2607xxxx ?
I would want an accurate measurement of the Chrono sweep hand as well. The patina has that "caramel" look which I believe the majority of the Ultraman dials are seen with. The cynic in me says, the serial might be right on the money...but... Also need better pics of dial I think. the dial should be pure black with a satin varnish, while the standard 145.012 is dark grey (anthracite) with a matte varnish
Hi @wjhart Speedmaster 101 says they should all fall in the 2607xxxx... serial number range. This one appears to be 2634xxx I'd be interested to see what other members think.
I mentioned this to the seller, responses below. “We believe it to be correct and many articles state different descriptions and opinions. Speedmaster 101 is not considered the go to source for many serious collectors mainly a quick snap shot for initial reference. With regard to the length of the orange hand it has damage to the end of it and we believe it has the top Brocken off.” Could be a great find for somebody, either way a nice condition 145.012...
Interesting! MWO book also states serial numbers between 26.076.8xx and 26.079.7xx Why wouldn't they get an extract also to reduce any chance of doubt?
Guys, there will be no extract for this watch. Look at this... This is by all means not an Ultraman hand. It’s too thick, too short and too modern in terms of color. That serial doesn’t match either. Don’t waste your money with a seller who is obviously lying in his description.
There is no single Extract saying « Ultraman » out there 50? Sources, please ! You seem to know something new, sources please !
I am away from my watches but the extract definitely makes it clear the watch was issued with an orange chrono. Others have observed a specific dial, but I have not spent time studying it and bow to others expertise.
I don't see reason why would anyone not sell this watch without Extract, it surely confirms the provenance. If the watch has no extract, I would treat it as regular with retrofitted orange hand.
If it doesn't have the extract, then you have to value it as a standard 145.012. If you really like high-stakes gambling, then sure you could grab this and hope that its actually an ultraman. Maybe it will pay off... The most prominent thought in my mind is that if the seller really believed it was an ultraman as confidently as he says, then he would have gotten the extract already.
