C'mon guys you thought I was going to let this day pass by without posting a thread.

43 years ago today Apollo 16 lands on the moon on April 21, 1972 (GMT Date) to participate in the ultimate off road race.

Photographed by Charlie Duke, here is John Young tearing up the track in the image know as "The Lunar Grand Prix"

The Speedmaster was originally produced as a racing watch....Right?

Only a bas ass like John Young could pull off a combination like this.

A single rivet leather bund style strap with a metal calendar bent around it paired with a Beta Cloth leisure suit.

Truly a man after my own heart.

Go ahead..Say something to him about it.

In honor of the day I'm going with the Speedmaster NASA Velcro combo.

There are some great documentaries interviewing Young, NASA: Triumph and Tragedy and When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions in particular and its hilarious how animated the other guys are and he's just totally chilled out especially compared to Crippen who was so excited and amped up about STS-1. First flight of the shuttle and Young puts it down on the ground like he's flying a 737.

No kidding. Young is a man of few words. I recently saw When We Let Earth again and it was fantastic . He was the same way in In the Shadow of the Moon. You have Young at one end of the spectrum and Bean at the other.

I think spacesuits are like four-wheel-drives, they should always be dirty.;)

@TLIGuy : Thanks for sharing this. Just makes me want a pre-moon Speedie even more!

Gee, I had no idea you are such a youngster... I guess I need to start watching my language more closely!

The space program is responsible for many things like enriched baby food, freeze drying, and cordless vacuums but I don't think Tide was one of the spin-off products.
