This is the only Universal I have ever bought. 15 years ago, I wanted complications of any kind and was really into calendar movements. Funny, 5 years later, I couldn't get anything for any of my calendar watches so I kept them.
Looks like it was a lucky thing I didn't settle for $800.

You could probably get yourself a few Longines with that :D
(but something tells me you're not about to let go of it)

Now this is lucky, the original 1965 UG spring bars (both) made of brass, and Xtal has original U impression in the center. Xtal has never been changed.

Kinda can see the shadow from the logo off center facing about 8'o clock position

Amazing stuff. Great condition overall, and yes, I'd say you made the right decision to hold onto it!

If you were trying to get rid of it ten years ago, I suggest now would be a good time to do so.

Where is the "unlike" button on this thread? Hahahaha.
No, I am not immune to stupidity. Here is a list of watches I could have had. Actually held them in my hands and didn't know what to do with them.

    1) Rolex GMT 6542 Bakelite full set with Rolex laboratory tests guarantee papers for no Strontium 90 from Rikken UniversityTokyo Japan. Original receipts and Tokyo service papers from 1960s. (Didn't like the dial)
    2) Rolex Beta 21 (Too big, heavy, and quartz)
    3) Rolex Omani Sea Dweller 1665 (Didn't like the Arabic writing)
    4) Patek Phillipe 96 Steel (It was broken)
    5) Hanhart KM Red ($6,000? Too expensive and everyone thought it should have a pointer case)

So at least I was lucky and someone prevented my stupidity from getting the better of me for the Universal.

Well, at least those have only doubled (or tripled) in price or so if I'm not mistaken…. the curve on this UG is considerably more steep.

@Seiji you certainly made the right call on this one. In the watch world, isn't it often the case that yesterday's market reject (or at least laggard) becomes today's rare and most desirable gem?

Rolex Milgauss and early Daytona references to name just a couple. Other nominees?

There's one monster out there that I am trying to grab, but big money to get in. Maybe huge money in a few.

More accessible are the rare metals Date Justs. Just my speculation.
