Hi, recently joined the forum, and this is my first post. I hail from Southern California. I have a 1954/55 mechanical watch, centre second, with the following details - Caliber 420, 17 jewel 33mm 9ct Dennison case Serial number 14243518 I'm not sure of the reference, or even how to determine it, exactly. I've seen posts on various sites identifying ref. digits to characteristics, but I don't think I know enough to do it myself. Apologies, my photos aren't stupendous. My questions are about finding an original strap buckle for this English-cased watch. From what I've seen on threads here, it is likely a Montal Watch Fittings (MWF) hallmarked 9ct buckle. Probably 16mm. Agree? I've found date references on other threads showing a date hallmark letter K for 1959, and P for 1964. Does this mean there is a MWF hallmarked buckle out there labeled F or G for 1954/55? I haven't found a detailed reference that connects MWF manufacture year to a hallmark letter. Does anyone have one or know where to find such a reference? Basically, I'm hoping the Omega Jedis out there will tell me, "this is the buckle you're looking for." Thanks!
Seems like you're on the right track. This link suggests 'R' for 1966 and 'Q' for 1965... Edit: @Mathlar shows an MWF buckle from 1959 here:
