    Hi

As some of you who read my vintage/steampunk table thread know, my family is moving homes at the moment and my father found (yes in a sock drawer) and gifted me, his old Seamaster Mariner Quarz watch.
    IMG_1026.JPG

I have good memories of fondling with it as a child, and this was the watch that started my fascination with timepieces from an early age.

As this is a keeper, it will undergo a full service and case refurbishment. It's a labour of love kinda thing, as the service costs will probably exceed the watches value.

I know case refurbishments are viewed controversially here, but as with the recent discussion here on refinishing Speedmaster MK cases, I think this funky 70's cushion case style with all it's angles will benefit greatly from it.
I have seen some of the superb refinishing work from my watchmaker thats rivaling the work I saw here from STS. Which would have been my watchnaker of choice if I would be based in the UK.

The watch has not run for the better part of 15 years, and the movement has some Problems, as clearly somone with lesser knowledge tried to fix it in the past. But I'm not to worried about this as my watchmaker has an omega parts account. I just keep my fingers crossed that the parts will still be available.

Here are some more pics of the watch, I quite like it a lot. Especially the step dial that I had forgotten about totally. Tritium is all there, AML, syringe hands ... what's not to like :). It's dirty and gunky and the bracelet is pretty stretched.

I keep you guys updated and will post pictures when I receive it after service.

    Have a good day!

    Cheers,

    Max

    The watch?

Just a joke, the watch is cool and reminds me of the F-117!

    Keep us posted, Max.

Haha yes. ;). After re reading it I also thought that it sounds kinda weird. Nice comparison, wasn't the f117 developed around the same time? Late 70's-ish?

Will do! Might take a while thou, as my watchmaker is on parental leave atm.

Very sharp looking design and can only come from the '70's.
I'd like to see it after the work and incidentally I don't see any reason why STS cannot do the work. I understand they do stuff for a number of overseas clients.

I'm absolutely positive that they could do the work. But I like to support my local watchmaker, which happens to be omega certified and is only 30 km away from where I live, and that's very convenient for me. So no need to send it overseas.

I had one of these and really enjoyed wearing it. The problem was that most movement parts were no longer available (this goes back 6-7 years ago) and I ended up having to find a donor watch to get spare parts. Hopefully, your guy has better access to parts. Good luck!

I paid my watchmaker a visit yesterday to collect some and drop some off. I finally got my dads old Seamaster Mariner back, and I have to say this time he went the extra mile! I'm super happy right now, and so was my dad when I showed it to him. "That's just like I bought it in the early 80's!"

I'm normally not a friend of case Restauration but I have to say it was money well spend this time. And as this watch is never going to be sold, I didn't mind refinishing the case.

    Enough talk, Pictures!

I'm amazed by the skill he puts into his work.Retaining all those sharp edges on a case like that, and on the bracelet is astonishing to me.

    Have a nice weekend OF!

    Cheers,

    Max

Edit: Where are my manners, here's a wristshot :).
