When Omega introduced its Speedmaster Professional Moonphase in 2003, it wasn’t an entirely new model. Already back in 1985, Omega introduced the SpeedyMoon 385.0809 and two additional references. The 2003 model, reference 3876.50 for the leather strap version and 3576.50 for the one on the bracelet, is based on the 1980s SpeedyMoon. In this article, […]

Great article! I would love to get the 1985, 345.0809 as that’s my birth year. But it’s a bit out of price range for now, and I don’t see them come up very often. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I happen to know a very nice 345.0809 for sale, need to check if it is from 1985. Will do and if it is, I will send you a PM.

Beautiful looking watch! The blue on the dial and the soft brown strap are an attractive contrast.

Really good article, enjoyed reading! I got my 3576.50 in really nice shape from a fellow forum member (my "FIRST AND ONLY", so far, OF purchase, and first Speedy), and I love it.

The Speedy Moonphase started my love for the Speedmaster.
It still holds a special place in my collection.

Both are beautiful. I don’t think they get enough respect.

I own more Omegas in my collection than any other brand, but I just can’t get on board with their moon phase models. From a technological perspective, they are impressive watches, but I just find the dials too busy for my taste. For a moon phase, I’ll stick with my JLC.

Thanks for sharing this article!
I tend to love the "different" speedy's. I love my own Mk40.
And I would definitely like to own a moonphase Speedy. The '80 version is absolutely brilliant, but way out of my reach. I could see myself owning one of the newer ones though 😀. I also like de CK 2998 and DSOTM (too big, but realy cool). Anything but "the real deal" for me...althoug...a tritium '90's speedy.....😉

@gbesq :that moonphase ultra thin JLC is also a very nice watch (even better in black imho)

Speedies with Moonphases are very cool, imho.
My favorite:

On the JLC side, less known maybe, there is also a grey dial version:

Any problem with the Omega 3576.50.00? I am about to buy one and of course, it doesn't have a warranty.

I owned one for about 6 months. It was nice. The date wheel is barely visible, but it's nice to have there I guess.

Good luck with the sale!

There don’t appear to be any more issues to the moon phase variant than to any normal 861/1861 variant so you should be fine.

The only small caveat is its a manual wind watch and setting the date and moon phase is a mild to moderate inconvenience, so if its in rotation with other watches and not being used as your primary timepiece you may find you don’t wear it as often due to how long it takes to set when you’re about to leave the house.

I hadn't considered this with a moon phase watch. I guess you have to look up where the moon is in its cycle to set the watch correctly?

Thats only if you care that its correct, when I wear non-quickset watches I’m often lazy and leave the date wrong as I tend to not care when I’m in a hurry but I’ve found watches that require much fiddling including moon phases, calendars, and GMTs don’t get as much wrist time as simpler watches unless they’re on a winder. The thing is you can’t put a Speedy on a regular winder so unless its wound all the time it will stop and then the date and moon phase will be wrong. I sold my Batman GMT for this reason, it was a pain in the ass to set so I never wore it.
