Agreed 100%. Something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay. However, there's a sucker born every minute as well. Just because it was posted on a blog, dosen't mean theres value for such a watch.

First, its even outlined that this watch is made up FROM NOS parts.
    Second, 7733 movement? cmon.
Third, there is zero comps above 3k for a NOS example with correct parts, this example dosent even have correct parts.

    Tulip Mania for sure.....

Remember what I said about market manipulation... someone's trying to make this a thing. $7k and 1 picture?

Yeah that has to be shill bidders. I had one for a hot second and it left me thoroughly unimpressed. Needless to say, it was sold for far less than $7K!

Well if you are going to build a watch from NOS, you should really aim to use the right parts.
This particular Ebay seller has a history of selling LIP watches from NOS. Which suggests he bought a large qty of parts at some point.

An original LIP watch of this 'Newman' type should have the correct case and orange markers on the hands.
As excellently covered in a recent article covered here:
    https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/lip-paul-newman-chronograph-investigation.

I like the real ones ;)

Seller is a watchmaker whose main business is to assemble "NOS" vintage watch from "orignal NOS" part.
Some under his own name (Jean Louis Frésard), some under manufacture name such as LIP.
His own website seems more transparent, it's a familly business based in the original french watchmaking area for several generation and they claim to have accumulated parts from manufacturer since 1900 or so.
Ebay's ad says old stock but doesn't specifiy if watch is NOS or assemble from NOS part.

That, presumably, a hodinkee article could have such a dramatic impact upon a watch's price beggars belief.

 Sums up what's wrong in the vintage watch world anno 2017 if you ask me

As it stands now that base metal ( sorry steel backed! ) 1970's chrono, with at best an extremely tenuous link to Paul Newman  is running at almost twice what I've ever spent on a single watch!

    The mind boggles ::screwloose::

I just picked up a Waltham all stainless chrono. I'll sell it to any of you for the bargain basement price of half whatever this LIP finishes at, lol
